In 1894, the first kilogram of red pepper in Bulgaria was ground at Alexander Dimitrov's mill in Kurtovo Konare. The Kurtovo Konare Festival takes place annually in Kurtovo Konare during the second week of September and lasts three days. A Bulgarian pepper variety is called Kurtovska kapia.
