Holiday apartment in Donji Vakuf – culture, the Vrbas and Semešnica

Donji Vakuf is home to cultural monuments, the Ajvatovica tradition, fly fishing on the Vrbas and the river landscape of the Semešnica. Culture

The Sahat-kula in Donji Vakuf is listed as a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Within the municipality of Donji Vakuf, the same applies to the Late Antique basilica in Oborci, the archaeological site near Studena Česma and the Handanija Mosque in Prusac. The Carsijska-Baš-Džamija in Donji Vakuf was built in 1574. The Ajvatovica tradition is described as being more than five and a half centuries old. The listed sites are spread across Donji Vakuf, Oborci, Studena Česma and Prusac. The selection therefore includes a Sahat-kula, a Late Antique basilica, an archaeological site and two mosques.

The 515th Ajvatovica Festival included a children's folklore showcase at Ibrahim-beg-Malkoč Square in Donji Vakuf, an exhibition of old photographs of Ajvatovica at the Donji Vakuf Cultural Centre, and the SBK/KSB Ajvatovica Fly Fishing Cup in Donji Vakuf, held in cooperation with the SRD “Vrbas”.

Activities

The Vrbas is associated with fly fishing in Donji Vakuf: on 4 August 2018, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina Fly Fishing Championship was held on the Vrbas in Donji Vakuf. The fly-fishing competition stretch on the Vrbas is located in the centre of Donji Vakuf. The OPEN KUP 14. SEPTEMBAR is considered a traditional annual fly-fishing competition held on the competition stretch of the Vrbas River.

A 10-kilometre hiking trail through Balihodžićki potok, Topala and Oboračko jezero has been marked in the area of the municipality of Donji Vakuf. The Borića excursion area is located near the Sahat-kula and the town centre of Donji Vakuf. It has several benches and litter bins and has been marked and signposted.

Nature

In April 2005, beavers were reintroduced into the Semešnica River in Donji Vakuf. The area of the Semešnica River near Donji Vakuf was declared a protected area in 2006. Beavers can be observed in the Semešnica area. The access road to the Semešnica waterfalls is mostly paved; a short section is a gravel road.
