During the interwar period, it was converted into a mechanical mill and powered by a rare horizontal single-cylinder diesel engine made by Claeys-Zedelgem. The ruins of the Plaetsemolen mill are a protected monument.

Kasteel van Loppem was built between 1858 and 1863. Its architecture and interiors have been preserved in their original condition. Kasteel van Loppem also contains the room where King Albert I and Queen Elisabeth lived in 1918. The Doolhof Loppem, designed in 1873, adds a spatial experience to the visit: its green and red hornbeam hedges form corridors measuring 1.5 kilometres in total and lead to a central tree.
