Surice can be explored through several architectural stories: the Château de Surice, features in the Parc du Château and the Église Saint-Lambert each offer a different perspective. You’ll encounter a château with earlier predecessors, a neo-Romanesque church and individual event dates. This lets you plan your stay around specific interests, such as architecture, garden design or a particular event.

The château’s history and park features

The Château de Surice was rebuilt around 1920 on the foundations of a château dating from 1687. The earlier building had been destroyed by fire during the war. This brings together an older château history and a reconstruction from the early 20th century. In the Parc du Château de Surice, part of a rocky area designed in the 1930s and extended in 1949 has been preserved. It includes a grotto bordered by a narrow path. Two small pavilions stand along the park wall. They are traditionally considered former customs offices and are mentioned as early as 1502. The rocky area, grotto and pavilions give the park distinctive historical and design features.

The Église Saint-Lambert

The Église Saint-Lambert is a neo-Romanesque limestone building dating from 1924. There is also a more recent Calvary with Christ beside the church. The building’s plans are attributed to an architect whose name is given only uncertainly as “Docq (?)”. In contrast to the château’s history, this represents a different building period: the church dates from 1924, while the Château was rebuilt around 1920 and traces its history back to a château from 1687. If you’re interested in architecture, the two stories offer different points of reference in time.

Events and activities

The agenda lists a fruit-tree pruning workshop in the Parc de la Vignette on 26 February, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. To take part, registration with S. Charlier at 0488/29.19.00 is required; the participation fee is up to you. Check before your trip whether the event is taking place. The Fête des jardins et de la vie bucolique is also listed for 16 April. The agenda also mentions a group jog that takes place on Thursdays at 7 p.m. and is open to everyone. As event dates can change, it’s worth checking the latest schedule before planning your trip around them.
