Ohey showcases the Condroz, with its ridges and valleys: forests are generally found on the tiges, the landscape’s ridges. Villages and grazed meadows are usually close to streams at the bottom of the valleys. Bands of limestone and shale, as well as former clay deposits, have shaped the natural heritage. As a result, descriptions of the area bring together different landscape features—a delightful setting for days spent outdoors while also discovering places of historical and cultural interest.

Hiking, Cycling and Land Art

For walking, Ohey has an extensive network of paths and trails, with almost 70 kilometres of walking routes. The Sentiers d’Art offer another way to explore the area on foot: this marked, 160-kilometre hiking circuit passes through Ohey and is divided into 23 shorter loops ranging from 3 to 50 kilometres. The routes combine hiking with more than 60 land-art installations and street-art murals. The different loop lengths give you a practical guide when planning a shorter outing or a longer hike.

There is also a dedicated route for a cycling trip: the Circuit vélo Ohey passes through Ohey, Haillot, Jallet and Evelette. The Syndicat d’Initiative et de Tourisme d’Ohey sells maps for walking, cycling, mountain biking and horse riding in Ohey and the Condroz region. A map for horse-riding routes covers trails in Ohey, Gesves and Assesse. Since map availability may change, it is best to check in advance.

Landscape and Cultural Heritage

The Château d’Hodoumont is part of Wallonia’s exceptional cultural heritage. It consists of a manor house and a fortified farm. The grounds include a pond, avenues of lime trees, avenues of beech trees and an avenue of hornbeams. Its architecture and parkland offer another way to discover Ohey, alongside its walking trails and the area’s geological features.

The Chapelle Saint-Mort is also associated with Ohey. In October 2023, it was documented that pilgrims regularly visit the Chapelle Saint-Mort in Ohey. According to local tradition, the Chapelle Saint-Mort in Haillot was built on the site where Saint Mort had set up his hermit’s hut. A hiking description published in 2025 presents the Neolithic-themed route “2.10.B) De Haillot à Doyon: menhirs, polissoirs et autres pierres de légendes.” It starts at the entrance to the Chapelle Saint-Mort in Ohey.

The Pierre du Diable is a Neolithic menhir weighing about 4 tonnes. As part of an enhancement project carried out from 2013 to 2014, the archaeological site was given a rest area, an educational information panel and an art bench. Check the condition of these facilities before visiting.

Discoveries in Haillot

Haillot has two educational displays about the black woodpecker and the great crested newt. The family-oriented tourism programme “Mes Aventures d’Enchanteur” also includes an adventure in Haillot, which is completed using a puzzle booklet. Seasonal restrictions may apply to some adventures.

If you are looking for a holiday rental in Ohey, it helps to first think about the kind of outing you want: would you mainly like to hike, plan a cycling trip, or explore land art and cultural heritage? The Sentiers d’Art loops range from 3 to 50 kilometres; the cycling route passes through four places, while the menhir and chapels offer other themes to explore. These differences give you practical points of reference for planning your stay and finding a holiday rental in Ohey that suits your interests.
