Cultural Heritage between Museum and Religious Building

A good introduction to the history of the area is the Espace muséal d'Andenne. It presents the local cultural heritage with interactive exhibitions and modern digital tools. The museum is located in Le Phare, which lies in the heart of Andenne and also houses a library and the tourist office. This makes it possible to combine information about the city and a museum visit in one place.

The Collégiale Sainte-Begge also offers numerous details for a culture-focused tour. The neoclassical church was designed by Laurent-Benoît Dewez; the foundation stone was laid in 1764. Inside, preserved features include a lectern with an eagle from the 16th century, choir stalls from the 17th century, as well as confessionals and a pulpit from the 18th century. There are also paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries, including “Le Massacre des Innocents” by Finsonius de Bruges, dating from 1615. Grotte Scladina: a Guided Visit

Grotte Scladina takes you even further back in time. It contains archaeological remains more than 100,000 years old and has been classified as exceptional heritage of Wallonia since 1996. There is one clear requirement for visiting: the cave can only be visited accompanied by an archaeologist as part of a guided tour. Anyone wishing to include this place in their trip should therefore treat the cave visit as a separate item on the itinerary and take the guided tour into account when planning their holiday.

Le Phare is also home to a restored, listed Art Deco swimming pool. It adds an illustrative example of architectural history to the building's cultural character. Together with the museum, this creates a visit in which exhibitions, digital interpretation and historic architecture appeal to different interests.

Walks, Views and Signposted Trails

For outdoor activities, there is the Calvaire. This heritage site is part of Andenne's cultural heritage and is a place for walking on the hillside in the heart of the old town. In addition, Andenne's new signposted trail network has been accessible since the beginning of July. It comprises 10 hiking trails, 3 mountain bike routes and 3 horse-riding trails.
