Villages, history and regional culture

A particularly worthwhile highlight is Montquintin in the municipality of Rouvroy. This is where the Musée de la vie rurale et de l’école d’autrefois is housed in a traditional Gaume farmhouse. Its classic layout, with a dwelling, barn and stable, makes the rural architecture itself part of the visitor experience. A notable building in Montquintin also houses the first museum dedicated to rural life and schooling in times gone by. The Church of Saint Quentin served as the chapel of the lords of Montquintin.

Torgny also has a strong cultural identity. For several years, the village has been listed among the most beautiful villages in Wallonia. One of its distinctive traditions is the Notre-Dame de Luxembourg procession, held every year on the fifth Sunday after Easter in honour of the Virgin Mary. This makes Torgny particularly appealing to travellers who want to combine village character, regional history and living traditions.

Nature between Torgny and Lamorteau

The surrounding area offers unusual opportunities for observing nature. In some sections of the Raymond Mayné nature reserve, the landscape is maintained by a herd of Lorraine goats. Torgny also has an exceptionally warm and dry microclimate on its vineyard slope. Rare plants grow there, including 15 orchid species, and the mountain cicada Cicadetta montana can also be found.

For a shared outing, you can plan the cycle and footpath between Lamorteau and Torgny. It provides a safe connection on foot or by bicycle and includes rest areas, picnic tables and educational modules about bats. Winter shelters for lizards and smooth snakes are also among the notable features along the route. The 26-metre-long “bat bridge” crosses the Ton River.

Routes and experiences for planning your trip

The RAVeL route in the municipality of Rouvroy connects the villages of Rouvroy, Harnoncourt and Lamorteau. The RAVeL walking route starts at ROx, by an information board at the entrance to the trail. ROx promotes the idea of bringing sport and culture together in one place. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether walks, cycling tours, cultural visits or a combination of these should be your priority.

Other options include Le Couarail in Dampicourt, with four automatic bowling lanes. The Poirier du Loup communal winery provides a regional taste: during group tours, the pressing process and winemaking methods are explained, followed by three tastings of different grape varieties.
