Between Dunes, Sea and Distinctive Architecture

Duinbergen combines a striking dune landscape with sea views, historic buildings and paths through an unusual garden village. From the highest dune tops, you can enjoy an impressive view across the sea. At the same time, the original dune relief has been preserved. Those planning a trip can combine different ideas for each day here: a walk through the landscape, a tour exploring the architectural history, or time at the beach and promenade.

The Christus-Koningkapel is particularly distinctive. The well-preserved neo-Gothic chapel has a Neo-Romanesque interior and is a protected monument. It was built in two phases on behalf of S.A. de Duinbergen, based on designs by the architect Jozef Viérin: in 1905, the chapel with vicarage was built on Duinbergenlaan, followed in 1929 by a significant extension with a winter chapel and vicarage on Duinendreef. This makes the development of the area visible through specific buildings.

The villa at Duinbergenlaan 72–74 is also part of Duinbergen's architectural history. The semi-detached villa comprises two residential units in the cottage style and displays features of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. It was built as holiday accommodation based on Paul Cauchie's own design. The winding streets of the garden village lead across the dunes to green parks and make the area interesting even beyond the beach.

Paths, Parks and a Beachside Location

Park 58 enhances the landscape with species-rich dune grasslands and numerous flowering plants. These include large thyme, conical catchfly, sea rue and yellow bird's-nest. Preserved pergolas can be found at both the entrances from Elizabetlaan and Arcadelaan. Such details are ideal for travel planning in which not only the sea but also the design and nature of the area play a role.

On the beach at the level of Lentelaan, Duinbergen has a wooden boardwalk. Zeedijk-Duinbergen also includes a promenade with a separate strip for cyclists. The Erfgoedwandelroute Duinbergen starts at Joseph Stübbenpark on Brieshelling in 8301 Duinbergen. The route has been checked for the condition of the surface and possible obstacles such as narrow sections, inclines and thresholds.

Active Days by the Water and Cultural Discoveries

For families with children between 7 and 17, the seasonal programme offered by RBSC Duinbergen may be of interest when planning a trip: in July and August, the club organises sailing camps from Monday to Friday. RBSC Duinbergen also offers catamaran training at its beach club. This allows you to add water sports to your stay according to your interests, while devoting other days to the chapel, architecture or landscape.
