Discover Hoeselt through two distinctive features: a trail of chapels, crosses and Marian statues, and the landscape along the Demer and Wermbeek. There are 311 chapels, crosses and Marian statues in total. There are also sites of cultural and historical interest, such as the Lindekapel, the Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Middelares parish church and the Watermolen op de Demer. At the same time, signposted walks and cycling routes offer opportunities to enjoy the outdoors during your stay. When looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to consider in advance whether local history, landscape or outdoor activities should be the main focus.

Chapels, Church and Local History

The Lindekapel stands on the road connecting Hoeselt with Alt-Hoeselt. It was the first station of the Way of the Cross processions, where the processions from Hoeselt and Romershoven met. The tradition of these processions may date back to the 13th century. The chapel thus connects a shared religious tradition with its possible long history.

The Onze-Lieve-Vrouw Middelares parish church is another architectural landmark. It is a pseudo-basilica, built in 1934–1935 to a design by the architect A. Bressers of Ghent. Hoeselt was first mentioned in 1066 under the name Housle; settlement here dates back to prehistoric times. The layout of the town also tells a story: L. Lambrechtsstraat forms part of the central east–west axis that makes up the core of the original street village. Farms dating from the 19th century have also been preserved in the centre, pointing to the rural character of the town centre.

Watermill and Demer Valley

The Watermolen op de Demer is a protected monument; it has been protected since 13 October 1986. The present-day mill dates from the second half of the 19th century. Its historical context also includes the Ferraris map of 1771–1777, on which the Watermolen op de Demer appears as a watermill. The site lies where the valleys of the Wermbeek and Demer meet. Another distinctive landscape feature is the broad, marshy Demer valley, which formed a natural boundary on the eastern side of Hoeselt. Hoeselt's architectural history and landscape are thus connected in distinct, specific ways.

Walks and Cycling Routes

The Hoeselt walking network comprises signposted walks with several starting points. Signposted cycling routes start at the Ter Kommen sports centre, Europalaan 2, 3740 Bilzen-Hoeselt. This is a helpful distinction when planning your day: there are several possible starting points for walks, while a specific starting location is given for the cycling routes. If you are travelling with children, you can plan your trip around your preferred mix of local history and outdoor activities, without having to combine the different options into a single route.

Find the Right Holiday Apartment for Your Stay

Hoeselt's attractions offer different starting points for planning your trip: the chapel, church and street village are suited to a focus on local history and architecture; the mill and Demer Valley draw attention to built heritage and landscape; and walks and cycling routes offer outdoor activities. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can first decide which of these interests matters most for your stay. This lets you choose a location to suit your travel plans without assuming a particular location in Hoeselt.
