Perwez: Walking Routes, RAVeL and Heritage
Accommodation in Perwez
Perwez offers various ways to get to know the area and its themes: walking routes lead to former railway stations and Brabantine quadrilateral farmsteads, while the RAVeL offers another perspective on the landscape. There is also a museum on the history of the Second World War in the region, as well as activities featuring farm produce. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Perwez, you can consider which of these discoveries you would like to shape your stay.
Walking routes with different themes
La Balade des 3 clochers is an 8 km walking route in the area around Malèves-Sainte-Marie-Wastines. Both the circular route and a description of the sights are available to download. The Totemus route “Perwez, une ville à la campagne” is 4.6 km long; it starts and ends at Place de la Gare. At 4 km, La Balade des Fermes is the shortest of these three routes. It passes through Thorembais-les-Béguines and highlights seven remarkable Brabantine quadrilateral farmsteads that have been renovated and maintained. A quadrilateral farmstead is a complex whose buildings enclose a courtyard; the route thus focuses on a specific form of rural architecture.
La Balade entre deux gares offers a different kind of route: an 11 km trail connecting the former Perwez railway station with the former Thorembais-Saint-Trond railway station. The difference is not just in length. The Totemus route returns to its starting point, whereas La Balade entre deux gares runs between two former railway stations. This makes it possible to distinguish the routes by their length and layout.
The RAVeL: routes and directions
La Transperwézienne follows the RAVeL-147, convenient farm tracks and quiet roads through the villages. It starts at Place de la Gare. The RAVeL is a network for non-motorised users, including pedestrians, cyclists, people with reduced mobility, skaters and horse riders. Along the RAVeL, tourist information boards provide information about important heritage sites, practical details about Horeca establishments, and cycling and walking loops. As a major green link for Perwez, the RAVeL follows the former railway line 147. Here, a former railway line, a network of routes for different non-motorised users and information about other route options come together. Since La Transperwézienne uses different types of paths and quiet roads, it is worth checking the local route description before setting off.
Horse riding, history and farm activities
If you would like to include a horse-riding route in your plans, “A cheval” offers a 12 km trail through Malèves and Orbais. It differs from the walking routes both in the activity it offers and in its layout. The Musée du Souvenir 40-45 focuses on a different theme: it traces the history of the Second World War in the region. Together with the former railway stations and quadrilateral farmsteads, it offers a view of different aspects of regional history.
Ferme Mandelaire offers another point of interest. Visitors can taste butter, cheese and yoghurt there. The farm organises group tours on request; the tour begins in the stable and ends with an introduction to the farm’s products. The visit combines a look inside the stable with an introduction to the farm’s produce. If you are considering these activities, bear in mind when planning that group tours are available on request.
Find the right holiday rental based on your interests
Your planned activities can be a useful starting point when choosing a holiday rental in Perwez: would you mainly like to include walking routes and architectural heritage, are you interested in the RAVeL, or are you planning a horse-riding route? The museum and farm activities add history and tastings to these options. The different route lengths, layouts and themes give you specific points to consider when planning a stay that suits your interests.
