Ropna: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the vicinity of Ropno, St. Nicholas Church stands on the shore of Lake Ropno. It is located on the site of the former male Zapolotsk Monastery.

Geography and Nature

Lake Ropno is located in the Polotsk District of the Vitebsk Region, near Kollektivnaya, and belongs to the Western Dvina drainage basin. A stream connects the lake in the southwest with the Western Dvina. Its water surface covers approximately 0.37 km², and its maximum depth is 3.4 m.

The area around Lake Ropno is predominantly flat and partly marshy. An extensive forest area stretches to the north and east. The shores are low, covered with shrubs and partly bordered by sparse woodland. The lake is home to perch, roach, bream, pike and tench, among other species.

At Lake Ropno, local residents from the surrounding villages and tourists used a beach with benches and children's swings for swimming and recreation.

Culture

In the vicinity of Ropno, the stone cemetery church dedicated to Saint Nicholas was built in 1750 at the Ropno estate on land belonging to the Epiphany Monastery. St. Nicholas Church on Lake Ropno has a cruciform floor plan made of brick masonry, an octagonal wooden lantern structure and a wooden dome. In rural areas, it is considered a rare example combining Late Baroque with Classicalist elements.

The church in Kollektivnaya is considered a Baroque architectural monument; at that time, it was closed to visitors.

Things to Do

The one-day route “To Kulnew” passes through Kollektivnaya, Azino, Matyushi and Kushliki. It is 55 km long and is completed using a combination of motorized transport and bicycles.

Paid recreational fishing is organized on Lake Ropno. Spearfishing is permitted there in daylight.
