Remembrance
The Urochishche Gai Memorial Complex is located on the northeastern outskirts of Baranovichi. It includes a symbolic threshold between life and death. The complex commemorates the shooting of a large group of Czech citizens who were prisoners of the Theresienstadt ghetto and had been brought to Baranovichi by rail in June 1942.
City History
The Baranovichi fire station is a stone building with two wings connected by a hexagonal observation tower. It was built in 1908, is a listed historic building and continues to house an emergency and rescue unit.
The Baranovichi local history museum displays a treasure find discovered in Khoroshki in 1957, comprising Polish and Lithuanian coinage dating back to the 1660s. It is located in the former house of the well-known merchant Bregman, one of the surviving early-20th-century buildings on Sovetskaya Street.
The museum also has a significant ethnographic collection featuring wooden objects, ceramics, a potter’s wheel, cooperage tools, mortars, butter churns, weaving implements and agricultural equipment.
It originated from a public museum with an art gallery founded in 1929. After its return to Baranovichi in 1953, it became the city’s local history museum in 1954.
