Mining and everyday history in the museums
Soligorsk Local History Museum makes mining its subject through its interior design: low ceilings, support structures and burgundy display cases evoke underground mine tunnels. The geology exhibition explores the Starobin potash deposit. It includes salt samples, fossils and landscape dioramas of the district. An ethnographic section is devoted to the material culture of the rural population. The objects on display include household and work tools as well as traditional clothing. Additional exhibition spaces provide room for regularly changing touring exhibitions.
The Museum of Labour Glory in Soligorsk contains more than 1,000 exhibits, divided into 11 main sections. The size of the collection and its thematic organisation give the museum a different scope from a single themed exhibition. Churches, exhibitions and a brightly lit park
In Chizhevichi stands the Holy Protection Church, a wooden Late Baroque architectural monument built in 1795. The complex also includes a spiritual and educational centre with museum exhibits spanning antiquity to the present day. The church and centre offer a distinct cultural focus alongside the museums in Soligorsk. The Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ can accommodate 4,000 worshippers at a time.
At Park of Four Elements, large-scale water and light installations shape the experience: the fountain basin is 32 metres across and illuminated by 80 lamps. 700 jets of water shoot more than 20 metres into the air. In an interactive fire zone, visitors can use special devices to create light patterns reflected by water and mirrors. The park thus combines a striking water display with an activity where you can experiment with light and reflections yourself.
Cycling and excursions
The Salt of Polesie cycling marathon offers three distances: 40, 75 and 130 kilometres. The routes pass through forests and fields and along gravel roads; some sections follow unpaved tracks. The area covered includes the districts of Salihorsk and Lyuban. The different distances give you a concrete basis for choosing a marathon route. It passes several of the city’s sights and leisure spots, lasts 3 hours and 30 minutes, and covers 10 kilometres.
