Mountain scenery and nature in Lorüns
Lorüns lies between the Rätikon and Verwall mountain ranges; Gavalina and Davenna are also mentioned. This location gives the landscape a distinct setting. Smaller landscape areas also shape the village: the Prazalanz alluvial fan is a near-natural cultural landscape with a rich variety of flora. The diverse forest biotopes are also among Lorüns’ natural features.
As of August 2022, the meadows of Prazalanz are a popular local recreation area. If your plans depend on specific facilities, check their current status in advance. This lets you make the landscape a focus of your travel plans while also checking what you will need for your visit.
Church history and glass art
The plain in the narrow valley at the entrance to the Montafon was already inhabited in the Middle Ages, despite the risk of flooding from the Ill River at the time. Around 1500, Lorüns had a chapel dedicated to St. John of Nepomuk because of the danger the Ill posed to the village. The Church of St. John of Nepomuk was later built between 1956 and 1960 to plans by architect Otto Linder. Auxiliary Bishop Bruno Wechner consecrated it on 7 June 1964.
The windows also make the church a worthwhile destination for anyone interested in architecture and art. The glass mosaic windows were installed in 1963 and 1964 and were created by painter Hubert Berchtold. Concrete glass windows on the south wall and beneath the gallery were made by W. Derix in Rottweil. The Catholic parish church of St. John of Nepomuk is listed in a heritage protection regulation issued by the Federal Monuments Authority for the Bludenz district.
Hiking trails and a cycling tour
The “Diebschlössle” hiking trail branches off in Lorüns from the right-bank Ill riverside path at the former “Alte Stroß.” Check the current trail markers before setting out.
The Illdammweg is part of the regional “Illweg” and is used by holidaymakers. Check current trail conditions before setting out. The Illdammweg and the “Diebschlössle” hiking trail offer different options for planning a walk; check the conditions on each route before you go.
For a cycling tour, the route runs from Lorüns to Partenen and can be ridden on a city bike, trekking bike or e-bike. The tour’s starting point is not far from Lorüns railway station. You can therefore choose from different types of bike when planning. Lorüns’ hiking trails and the cycling tour to Partenen offer different ways to make your stay active.
Lorüns as a base for your holiday apartment
When choosing a holiday apartment in Lorüns, first consider what you want your holiday to focus on: landscape and nature, walking trails, a cycling tour to Partenen, or the history and glass art of the church. If you’re planning a family holiday, you can weigh up these options together. These different themes can help you decide what kind of stay you’d like to enjoy in Lorüns.
