Discover Dalaas: Mountains, Trails and History
Accommodation in Dalaas
Dalaas combines village history with diverse trails, winter activities and impressive mountain destinations. Those looking for a holiday apartment for a vacation that caters to different interests will find opportunities here for both peaceful exploration and active days: historic churches and properties, a village circular trail, a cross-country ski trail, a toboggan run and paths into the high-Alpine landscape.
Experience village history along short routes
One of the defining buildings is Dalaas Parish Church. It is a late Gothic church dating from the 15th or 16th century and was remodeled in the 18th century. The Church of the Holy Cross, dating from 1746, also stands in the village center. Another cultural and historical point of interest is Sonnenhalb, a historic property with its own Mariahilf Chapel. The chapel is located west of the property, has a gabled roof and its own bell. The altarpiece of Mary Help of Christians, which is still preserved today, also dates from the 18th century.
The Historical ArchiTour presents old Waldner houses, their former residents and the origins of historical house names and nicknames along the route. The village circular trail is ideal for an active tour of the village. It starts behind the municipal office in Dalaas, follows the Alfenz stream out of the valley past the outdoor pool and sports field, and continues toward St. Oswald Parish Church. The section from the municipal office to the level of the Gasthof Krone is accessible with a stroller. The outdoor pool complements the outing with swimming, table tennis, trampolining and a pool kiosk.
Winter days and mountain trails
In winter, the entrance to the first section of the Alfenz cross-country ski trail is directly opposite the Kristbergsaal in Dalaas. The snow-reliable trail runs mostly along the Alfenz stream to the valley station of the Sonnenkopf cable car. The entrance can be reached via the “Kristbergsaal Dalaas” stop on the L720 Landbus. Those who prefer to go sledding will find a groomed toboggan hill on the Dalaas-Hetzel toboggan run, which is considered suitable for families with children. From the Kristbergsaal, the toboggan run can be reached on foot via the Poller district in 15 minutes.
There are also notable destinations for the warmer months. The “Stebok Wäg” leads from Dalaas to Lake Formarinsee and the Freiburger Hütte mountain hut. The Spullerplatten climbing garden is divided into the “Lower Spullerplatten” and “Upper Spullerplatten” areas. Both are located in the slabby rocks on the left side of the path toward the Ravensburger Hütte. Because the climbing wall faces southeast, it receives the warmth needed for climbing as early as spring.
Lake Spullersee is a originally natural high-Alpine lake in Vorarlberg. The Austrian Federal Railways dammed it between 1919 and 1925 in connection with the electrification of the Arlberg Railway; since then, it has been used to generate energy. Numerous hikes are possible at and around the lake, which is also used as a fishing spot. Lake Spullersee can be reached on foot from the Klostertal, from Lech am Arlberg with the fee-based Lech Seen hiking bus, route 706 Spullersee, or by bicycle through Zugertal. You should take these different options into account when planning your day and choosing the focus of your vacation.
History in the Klostertal
The Klostertal Museum in Wald am Arlberg provides insight into the history of the Klostertal and the people who lived there. In the exhibition workshop built in 1930, visitors can learn interesting facts about traditional crafts: they can watch the production of wooden shingles and other crafted pieces and may even participate themselves. Guided tours are also offered at the Klostertal Museum outside opening hours by prior arrangement.
The more recent local history includes Dalaas railway station. It opened in 1884 and was destroyed by the Muttentobel avalanche on January 12, 1954. A memorial site east of the newly constructed station building commemorates the victims of the 1954 avalanche disaster. Those who choose a holiday apartment in Dalaas can therefore tailor their stay to their preferred daily rhythm: with local history and short walks, winter activities or individual excursions to the mountain and cultural destinations of the Klostertal.
