Kammer: Klimt Culture, Trails and Castle History
Kammer combines culture, trail experiences and a unique castle history. Anyone looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home for a trip with varied interests will find several specific points of interest here: the Klimt Centre in Kammer-Schörfling, a themed walk, a very easy trail along the Ager and a mountain biking loop. You can also plan your journey by train and bus.
Discover Klimt Culture and Castle History
The Klimt Centre was opened in Kammer-Schörfling on 14 July 2012. The Gustav Klimt Centre presents a new exhibition every year. The cultural setting also includes the Klimt Garden: the approximately 100-square-metre grounds feature square flower beds, a water-lily pond and rose hedges. The garden is considered the world's first Gustav Klimt garden.
Another distinctive landmark is Kammer Castle in Schörfling am Attersee. The moated castle dates back to the 12th century. It was originally built on an island; today it stands on a peninsula after a direct connection was built up. This development also makes the castle interesting for visitors who want to learn about historic places not only through their architecture, but also through their location and transformation.
Walks with Different Focuses
The Gustav Klimt Themed Trail is 1.1 kilometres long and leads from the Gustav Klimt Centre in Schörfling to Villa Paulick in Seewalchen. Kammer is one of the places covered in the area of Gustav Klimt's former summer residences. The walk runs along the promenades in Schörfling and Seewalchen. This allows you to combine a cultural excursion with exercise without equating the route with a longer cycling tour.
If you are looking for a different type of trail, you can include the Ager Mill Trail in your plans. It is 4.3 kilometres long, very easy and begins at the Ager bridge near Kammer-Schörfling railway station. For a more athletic plan, the Schörfling-Hongar Cycling Tour is available: the mountain biking loop is 27.5 kilometres long and starts and ends at Kammer-Schörfling railway station. This allows you to shape your days around your cultural interests, a short walk or a longer cycling loop.
Getting There and Current Information About the Water
Kammer-Schörfling railway station can be reached from Attnang-Puchheim or Vöcklabruck on the Kammer Railway. The Kammer-Agerbrücke stop can be reached by bus. When choosing accommodation, you can take these travel options into account along with the focus you want for your excursions.
There are parking options for the Attersee Shipping landing stage in Kammer at the Kammer car park and in Seepark Kammer. At the same time, since 29 July 2026, the landing stage has temporarily not been accessible by boat due to the currently low water level. If a boat trip is part of your travel plans, you should take this restriction into account when planning your day.
