Discover Schlüßlberg: Hiking, Castle and Cycle Paths

Schlüßlberg combines varied paths, historic architecture and cycle connections through the Trattnachtal valley. Anyone planning a trip with different ideas for each day will find specific options here: six hiking loops ranging from 2 to 10 kilometres, a listed castle above the town and cycle paths connecting Schlüßlberg with other towns and the Danube Cycle Path. The town centre is surrounded by meadows and forests, giving your stay a clearly rural setting.

Hiking loops with digital guidance

The hiking network in Schlüßlberg consists of six loops. The different lengths, ranging from 2 to 10 kilometres, make it easier to adapt your daily plans to the desired distance. Since spring 2023, the network has been digitally supported and signposted. The respective route can be downloaded directly to your phone via QR code or viewed there. Two overview boards for the hiking network are also available in the centre.

A special option is the Schallerbach Loop. It is 10 kilometres long and expands the hiking network in Schlüßlberg. This makes it possible to incorporate the choice between a shorter loop and a longer tour into your travel planning in a clear and practical way. For a trip taken together, this offers a useful approach: not every day of the holiday has to follow the same rhythm, and the desired distance can be chosen anew each time.

Schloss and Hofbühne Tegernbach

Schlüßlberg Castle, formerly Schlüßlberg Fortress, is part of the town’s cultural character. The castle is officially protected as a historic monument and rises above the town on a promontory projecting from the right-hand slope of the Trattnach valley. Its location makes the town’s history tangible in the landscape, without implying that a visit is tied to specific opening hours or guaranteed access to the interior.

Another historic venue is Hofbühne Tegernbach. It is a listed Baroque Vierkanthof farmstead dating from 1704 that has been a cultural venue since the millennium year. Its former uses included events in the former barn, cowshed, horse stable and courtyard. Historically, jazz, rock, blues, theatre performances, exhibitions, cabaret, films, seminars and swing were held there. Anyone wishing to include culture in their travel plans will therefore find a place where architectural history and a diverse former events programme come together.

Cycle paths through the countryside

Schlüßlberg can also be explored by bicycle in various directions. The Trattnachtal Cycle Path R17 follows the banks of the Trattnach through Schlüßlberg and onwards to Bad Schallerbach, Wallern and Eferding, continuing to the Danube Cycle Path. In addition, the Innbachtal Cycle Path connecting route 7, or V7 for short, links Pichl bei Wels with Dingbach in Schlüßlberg. This route is 5 kilometres long and runs via Sulzbach, Jägersberg and Silbersberg.

Getting there and further travel planning

The route to Schlüßlberg leads from the A8 motorway via the Pichl bei Wels/Bad Schallerbach exit. From there, continue along the B134 towards Bad Schallerbach and then take the B137 towards Schlüßlberg. The entrance to the town centre is reached after approximately 4 kilometres. There is also a park-and-ride facility at the ÖBB stop in Schlüßlberg.
