Oberschlierbach – Panoramic Trails, Chapels and Nature

Oberschlierbach combines an unspoilt landscape with sweeping views over the Upper Kremstal, the Pyhrn-Priel region and the Alpine foothills. The panoramic view from the municipality is particularly impressive. Those planning a trip with walks, hiking trails, regional experiences and individual excursion destinations will find various options for planning their days here. Beautiful, fog-free autumn days are also part of Oberschlierbach’s special character.

Panoramic Trails and Nature Experiences

The RW Eckelsberg Panoramic Trail leads to a natural biotope and a magnificent panoramic view. In early May, the RW Gruabholz passes a stream whose banks are covered with countless blue periwinkle blossoms. Along this trail, the Gruama farm offers juices, fruit and vegetables. This allows a hike to be combined with an insight into regional products, without limiting the trail to just one type of experience.

At the Almwanderweg near Bauer in Reith, a goat cheese snack with cider, benches and a children’s playground invite visitors to take a break. The Schiefer Chapel is a sight along the RW Almwanderweg Bauer in Reith themed trail.

Views, Chapels and Historic Traces

The Grillparz viewpoint is located in the west of the municipality of Oberschlierbach at an elevation of 842 m. Hiking trail K80 leads from the village square to Grillenparz at an elevation of 842 m; shortly before the summit, you reach the Schmickinger Chapel. Hofkapelle Schmiking is protected as a historic monument under an ordinance. The farm with Schiefer Chapel is also protected as a historic monument under an ordinance. The Baumgartnerhof, also known as Bauernhof Bachl-Baumgarten, is protected as a historic monument under a decision pursuant to Section 3.

The parish service schedule for Schlierbach lists a service at the Schiefer Chapel at 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Oberschlierbach’s fourth daffodil festival was held at Hochkogl in 2024, on the first Sunday after Easter. Until 2020, Habinger Chapel was a stop on the annual pilgrimage from Schlierbach Abbey to Altpernstein. Alongside the landscape and outdoor activities, these various references provide cultural and historical points of interest for planning a stay in the area.

By Bicycle and on Longer Routes

The Beni Trail is a natural mountain-bike route for mountain bikers of all skill levels. It runs from Grillparz between Kirchdorf and Schlierbach. Parts of the Benedikt Trail pass through the municipalities of Oberschlierbach and Micheldorf. Those who would like to include these options in their travel plans can choose between a hike, a cycling tour or individual cultural destinations. A holiday apartment or holiday house in Oberschlierbach can be selected according to the desired daily destinations and preferred travel pace, without having to combine all activities into one circular route.
