Hinterstoder: Mountains, Trails and Winter Experiences

Hinterstoder combines a striking mountain landscape with trails, winter experiences and insights into the history of the Stoder Valley. The village lies in the headwaters of the Steyr River at the foot of the Großer Priel, Kleiner Priel and Spitzmauer mountains. The Stoder Valley can be recognised as a pronounced trough valley with remnants of a pre-Ice Age valley floor. This gives Hinterstoder a distinct natural setting for a holiday in which you can combine active days with quieter discoveries.

Between Mountains, Water and Special Viewpoints

One distinctive place in the valley is Schiederweiher. The pond was created in 1902 by the Imperial and Royal court master builder Schieder and is now a recreational area for locals and visitors. For a winter holiday, the Hinterstoder ski area includes the Hannes Trinkl World Cup run and a permanent race course. The Hutterer Höss ski area offers 40 kilometres of pistes and 14 lifts between 600 and 2,000 metres above sea level. The SNOWtrail in Hinterstoder is a special addition: a family adventure run with a wave track, steep bends and obstacles. These options give your travel planning different focuses: sporty descents, an adventure-oriented run or excursions into the mountain landscape.

The Alpineum Hinterstoder tells the story of the Stoder Valley and explains the development of skiing from its beginnings to the present-day World Cup. Guided tours are also possible by request outside opening hours. The Catholic Parish Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is a listed monument, adds another cultural accent. The Hinterstoder Summer Adventure World includes a gold-panning station at Löger Hütt'n, where you can search for gemstones, as well as a disc golf course.
