Auerbach: Hiking Trails and Historic Traces
Accommodation in Auerbach
In Auerbach, hiking trails of various lengths meet historic traces. The marked trails can also be used by Nordic walkers and runners. During your stay, you can choose between short routes with a specific destination and longer circular trails. There are also the Heiliges Kammerl pilgrimage chapel, the branch church in Höring and archaeological finds on the Siedelberg.
Hiking trails by distance and destination
The shortest of the three local trails is 1 km long: it starts on the “Unterkling” trail in Oberirnprechting, leads to the “Heiliges Kammerl” pilgrimage chapel and back again. The 3 km loop starts in Auerbach, passes through the Siedelberg forest to Unterkling, goes past fishponds and returns to Auerbach via Oberkling. It combines woodland sections with several named points along the route.
A longer loop leads from Auerbach through the Saltal forest to Höring and back to the starting point via Wimpassing. It is 6 km long. Together, the three routes offer a choice of distances: from the 1 km trail to the chapel to the 3 km and 6 km loops. You can plan your hike according to whether you want to focus on a specific destination or a longer loop. Check local conditions before setting out.
The Bavarian-Austrian Marien hiking trail also passes through Auerbach. It is 130 km long in total and opened in 2014. The international long-distance hiking trail 810, the “Rupertiweg,” also passes through the village. Both routes add long-distance trails to the shorter local routes.
Chapel, church and archaeological traces
The Heiliges Kammerl pilgrimage chapel in Unterirnprechting dates from around 1800. A spring called “Frauenbründl” rises beneath the forecourt. The chapel and spring are therefore closely connected: the spring’s name is as much a part of this place as the building itself.
Another historic trace leads to Höring. St. Stephen’s branch church was first mentioned in 1160. At the Siedelberg, meanwhile, finds from the time of the Illyrians were discovered in five Auerbach graves: a magnificent bronze dagger with its sheath and a well-preserved clay vessel. The archaeological finds, the church’s early mention and the chapel dating from around 1800 each highlight a different period and theme.
Horse riding and choosing a holiday location
Riding lessons are available at the Grill riding stable. Contact them directly to ask about current packages. Auerbach’s riding area is in a protected landscape, where there are no horse-riding bans. Before setting out on a ride, confirm local access and use conditions.
If you are looking for a holiday apartment, the starting point of your planned hikes can help you choose a location: the 3 km and 6 km loops start in Auerbach, while the 1 km trail to the chapel starts in Oberirnprechting. Base your search on the place that suits the trails you plan to take.
