Accommodation in Lanzenkirchen
Lanzenkirchen combines a diverse landscape with historical traces and distinctive trails. The Leitha River, with its lush green floodplain forests, forms the scenic centrepiece south of Wiener Neustadt. Added to this are the gentle, wooded slopes of Bucklige Welt with the Rosaliengebirge, which extend almost as far as the banks of the Leitha. Opposite lies the broad plain of the Steinfeld with its imposing pine forests. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home for a trip with varied interests will find opportunities here for cultural and hiking days as well as for a cycling tour.
Between the Leitha, wooded slopes and Steinfeld
The landscape can be experienced in various ways. Lanzenkirchen has well-developed and signposted hiking and Nordic walking trails. The LA1 – Frohsdorfer Weg leads for around 3 km through the forest to the long-distance hiking trail; along the way, follow the red-white-red markings. The LA3 – Ofenbacher Weg leads through the district of Ofenbach onwards towards Melberleiten. After two hairpin bends, the LA2 – Hauerweg offers panoramic views. The 15-metre-high Lanzenkirchen/Wiesen observation tower is also an interesting viewpoint. It can only be reached on foot and can therefore be planned as a separate destination for a walk.
The location is also an important travel consideration for cyclists: Lanzenkirchen is connected to the Thermenradweg, which is also known there as EuroVelo 9. This connection supplements the hiking trails with another way to explore the surrounding area. When choosing your accommodation, you can therefore consider whether you would like to focus on walks, signposted trails, viewpoints or a cycling tour.
Historic trails and buildings
The Bourbonenweg is a historical themed trail in Lanzenkirchen. It is around 5 km long and includes 12 stations. Another special feature is the legend trails, which run through all the districts of Lanzenkirchen. Their routes are easy and uncomplicated. Anyone who has visited all the legend sites becomes a master of legends and receives a certificate. This creates a travel idea that combines history, activity and shared discovery.
Several notable buildings form part of the historic village setting. Lanzenkirchen Parish Church contains Romanesque elements dating from around 1220. Ofenbach Mountain Church has a Romanesque core; its surviving frescoes probably date from between 1360 and 1390. Schloß Frohsdorf was built between 1547 and 1550 from the fire-damaged ruins of the “Krotenhof” as a château-like complex. These various landmarks provide several cultural points of interest for a trip to Lanzenkirchen.
Museums for additional discoveries
The Farmers’ Museum contains more than 6,000 exhibits and provides insights into rural and craft life in former times. The Firefighting Museum displays well over 3,000 exhibits. During guided tours, visitors learn interesting facts about the history of the fire service. Depending on the weather and your interests, you can therefore supplement your stay with a museum visit or plan a day devoted to historical topics.
