Stollberg is an interesting starting point for days when you want to combine hiking trails, historical impressions and expansive landscapes. Several routes pass through the village, start here or include Stollberg Castle as a distinctive destination. This allows you to plan according to your preferred route: choose a shorter period, a ridge hike with panoramic views or a route that connects different sections of trail.

Hiking Trails Around Stollberg

The Natura Trail Hochwienerwald leads from Gern along the road to Stollberg Castle, hidden behind walls. The castle was built in 1560/70 and gives the hike a historical connection. If you would like to include the building as a destination in your day plan, you will also find other described trails associated with Stollberg Castle.

The Gföhlberg Achter climbs to Stollberg Castle along the asphalt road. From the castle, the Gföhlberg Achter continues for approximately 500 m to the Kreuzwirt inn. On the Großer Türkenstein circular trail, the path turns right after Stollberg Castle onto the Gföhlbergweg. Another section of this circular trail leads down over the Stollberger-Anhöhe to the Kreuzwirt inn. This allows you to compare the different route variations and choose a route that suits your day plan.

As a gentler trail option, the Hüttenweg from Stollberg to the Gföhlberghütte takes approximately ¾ to 1¼ hours. Take this approximate time into account when planning and compare it with the longer trail ideas. The first stage of the Michelbach Höhenweg starts at the Gasthof zum Kreuzwirt in Stollberg. This also marks the beginning of a route whose further character is shaped by the ridge hike.

Panoramas and Trails with Different Focal Points

The ridge hike along the Michelbach Höhenweg from Stollberg offers panoramas and distant views over the Gölsental and the foothills of the Alps. This trail may be particularly interesting for you when the focus of the day is not solely on a destination, but on views across the landscape. The different routes can therefore be arranged according to your interests: the castle adds a historical accent, the Hüttenweg states an approximate walking time, and the ridge hike focuses on panoramas and distant views.

Stollberg can also be included in your plans by bicycle. The stp Route #10 Elsbeere Wienerwald Region passes through Stollberg. If you would like to alternate between hiking and cycling during your stay, you can consider this route as a separate day option alongside the hiking trails. For families with different interests, it makes sense to decide in advance whether a hike, a cycling tour or a route section characterized by historical and scenic features should be the focus on a given day.

Choose Stollberg as Your Place to Stay

When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Stollberg, you can first determine your preferred focus. Should the day begin with the Natura Trail and the castle, with the first stage of the Michelbach Höhenweg or with a route to the Gföhlberghütte? The views over the Gölsental and the foothills of the Alps, as well as the option of including stp Route #10, may also influence your personal choice.
