Innerfragant: Hiking Trails, Mountain Tours and Mölltal Glacier

Innerfragant is a destination for everyone who wants not only to admire mountain landscapes, but also to experience them along a variety of routes. The main attractions are the Großfragant with its gentle alpine meadows known for their abundance of flowers, the Rollbahn Trail and the paths to the Fraganter Schutzhaus. In summer, the Fraganter Schutzhaus serves as a starting point for mountain tours and hikes, and in winter for ski tours and snowshoe hikes. Hiking Trails with History and Landscapes

The 4,400 m long Rollbahn plays a special role. It was built in 1906/07 to transport ore. The Rollbahn Trail leads through the alpine area of the Großfragant and then descends to Innerfragant. The Rollbahn Trail is also the 5th stage of the Alpe-Adria-Trail. Stations 1 to 10 of the Großfragant “drunter&drüber” themed trail are located along it. This allows you to combine the route with a thematic discovery without losing sight of the route’s historical character.

The path to Innerfragant also offers distinctive landmarks. The trail crosses the Fragantbach twice before reaching Innerfragant. A waterfall on the Fragantbach can be seen along the final 200 m. If you would like to combine a hike with a clear destination, you can also choose Route 9: It leads via the Patschgalm in Kleinfragant back down into the valley to Innerfragant. These different routes help you plan your excursions according to the landscape, theme and desired route layout.

Fraganter Schutzhaus and Mölltal Glacier

The Fraganter Schutzhaus is located at 1,770 m in the high valley of the Großfragant. In summer, it serves as a starting point for mountain tours and hikes, and in winter for ski tours and snowshoe hikes. The path there begins at the Innerfraganterwirt, to the left of the waterfall. The history of the building dates back to 31 July 1927: it was opened then after an old administrative building had been converted into a mountain refuge.

For another day in the mountains, the summer area of the Mölltal Glacier offers crystal-clear mountain lakes. The Gletscherexpress reaches the intermediate station at 2,200 m in 8 minutes. From there, a gondola continues to the mountain station at 2,800 m. During the summer months, hiking bus route 103 runs twice a day to the valley station of the Mölltal Glacier railway in Innerfragant and back. This connection is a specific factor to consider when planning your trip if you would like to combine days of hiking with an excursion to the Mölltal Glacier.
