Discover Gols: Wine, Culture and Family Experiences
Gols is located on the eastern shore of Lake Neusiedl. The wine landscape, culture and diverse excursion destinations offer various ways to plan your holiday. Almost half of the municipality's 4,223 hectares is planted with vines. Those looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Gols will find a place where wine knowledge, walks, regional festivals and a family-friendly leisure pool can be combined into different holiday experiences.
Wine Landscape and Paths Around Gols
A specific way to experience the landscape is the WeinWegGols. The circular trail is 9.8 kilometres long, starts at the WeinKulturHaus Gols and ends there again. Along the route is the Ungerberg viewing platform. It is designed as a resting place with an information board and offers views across the Gols vineyards to Lake Neusiedl. The Salzberg viewing platform on the WeinWegGols offers another opportunity to rest, enjoy a snack and linger. Take the length of the circular trail into account when planning your day and choose your accommodation to suit your preferred holiday pace.
Experience Wine and Discover Local Culture
At the WeinKulturHaus Gols, you can taste wines and learn interesting facts about the tradition, innovation and culture of Gols wine. More than 90 winegrowers and over 400 wines are represented there. The WeinKulturHaus is located in the oldest building in Gols, which was restored and revitalised with contemporary architecture and pioneering design. On the WEINWANDERWEG, winegrowers guide visitors through the top vineyards and explain their work, as well as how outstanding wines are produced in harmony with nature.
The town's history and art also have a permanent place here. In three exhibition rooms, the Erwin Moser Museum presents 65 pictures, sketches, manuscripts and translations by the children's author and illustrator Erwin Moser, who was born in Gols. The museum has a permanent home in the historic setting of the WeinKulturHaus in the centre of Gols. This allows you to combine a stay focused on wine with a cultural visit, without reducing the town to a single theme.
Family Excursion, Folk Festival and Special Experiences
For a day of water and activity, the family-friendly Aquasplash Gols leisure and adventure pool offers a long slide, a speed slide, a wild-water current channel, a 25-metre pool and a toddlers' area. The Golser Volksfest takes place every year during the week around 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, as well as on the preceding weekend. The programme includes a family and trade fair, concerts and dance entertainment, a wine tasting and an amusement park.
In Gols's VIP Park, sculptures of more or less famous personalities stand along a path. Since 1995, the park has been integrated into a biotope. This means that, alongside wine and the museum, Gols also offers an unusual cultural walk.
Getting There and a Suitable Base
Gols can be reached via the Gols/Weiden access road from the A4 motorway, by car or scheduled bus service via the B 51 federal road, and by train from Neusiedl am See. You can take these travel options into account when choosing your holiday apartment. Above all, the deciding factor is whether you would prefer to spend your days on the WeinWegGols and exploring the wine offerings, visiting the museum and folk festival, or enjoying Aquasplash. Accommodation in Gols therefore provides a base for a variety of travel plans, without requiring you to commit to just one type of holiday.
