Holiday apartment in Priske e Vogel: Gorge, mountain and church ruins

The Tërkuzë Gorge is located in the village of Priska e Vogël. It lies on the same road as the Bovilla Reservoir and is encountered along this route before the reservoir. The road to the Tërkuzë Gorge is partly paved and partly unpaved. Thus, along this section, a village, a distinctive landscape formation and the reservoir appear in a clear spatial sequence.

Culture

North of Priska e Vogël, the ruins of the Church of Shën Kollit, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, stand on a rock massif above the Tërkuza River. The ruins are those of a single-nave rectangular building. The church is 7.5 metres wide and 18.1 metres long; it is oriented from east to west. According to archaeological dating, the ruins of the Church of Shën Kollit date from the 12th century. The rock massif, river setting, building form and dating give this place a clearly defined historical presence.

Landscape

At 1,217 metres, Mount Priska e Vogël is the highest peak in the Zall-Herr area. The Tërkuzë Gorge also shapes the landscape: it is approximately 1,200 metres long and is a geological formation among limestone cliffs. Priska e Vogël also has many old olive trees. The mountain, gorge, limestone cliffs and olive trees therefore stand side by side as distinct, specifically identifiable features of the place.

Activities

You can hike along the course of the Tërkuzë Gorge river. To visit the Tërkuzë Gorge, you need a guide or a local person to show you the way. In summer, you can swim in the Tërkuza River. Priska e Vogël is also an alternative starting point for climbing Mount Brar. Two hikes connected with Brar begin from Priska e Vogël. Thus, this place focuses both on the course of the gorge and on the ascent into the mountain landscape, as well as seasonal time spent by the river.

In Zall-Herr, local festivals promote organic products from agriculture and livestock farming. These festivals are developing into a tradition of marketing agricultural and animal products. The area is also connected to transport history: Priskë e Vogël was incorporated into the route of suburban transport line 24 between Zall-Herr and the villages.
