Ha Tien between the Night Market and Mountain Views
Accommodation in Ha Tien
Ha Tien combines a night market shaped by the region with a history closely tied to the Mạc family and a variety of landscapes. Visitors can climb to the summit of Tô Châu Mountain and look out over Ha Tien; from there, they can also see Đông Hồ Lake. Nearby, there are also caves and limestone mountains, while the beach near Mũi Nai offers a distinct coastal experience. This gives you a practical choice when planning your trip: should your stay focus more on the market and historical sites, views over the town and water, or the beach? This question can also help you tailor your holiday rental search to the experiences you want from your trip.
The night market and goods from southwestern Vietnam
Ha Tien’s night market has numerous stalls. They mainly offer regional specialties from southwestern Vietnam, fish and seafood, dried goods, and handicrafts. Food and crafts are available side by side. The selection at the stalls may change, so these categories should not be taken as a fixed list of goods.
Views of Ha Tien and Đông Hồ
Tô Châu Mountain offers a view of Ha Tien: visitors can climb to the summit and look out over the town. Đông Hồ, a lake at the mouth of the Giang Thành River, is also part of the visible landscape. It is 3 km long and 2 km wide. These measurements give a tangible sense of its size, while its location at the river mouth adds a further geographical point of reference. For travellers interested in views and waterscapes, the area offers two distinct experiences.
The history of the Mạc family
Ha Tien was founded almost 300 years ago and is closely connected with the Mạc family. On Lăng Mountain, also called Bình San, there are more than 40 Mạc family graves with stone tombstones. This group of graves draws attention to the family’s history; the summit of Tô Châu, by contrast, offers a perspective on the landscape. Phù Dung Pagoda is near the graves. Mạc Thiên Tích had it built for his second wife so she could practise her religious devotion there. The two large bronze bells at Tam Bảo Pagoda also bear a name given to them by the Mạc family: “Tiêu tự thần chung”. The graves, pagoda and bells thus represent different connections to the family’s heritage: a group of graves, a building intended for religious purposes, and a named pair of bells.
Caves and limestone mountains nearby
Nearby, Thạch Động and Đá Dựng offer different landscape features. Thạch Động is 98 metres high and resembles the feathered hat of an English royal guardsman. Inside the cave is Tiên Sơn Pagoda, whose main hall is also located in the cave. Natural rock formations and a religious building come together here in one place. Đá Dựng is an 83-metre-high limestone mountain with a flat summit and numerous caves where sparkling stalactites can be seen. In terms of height, Đá Dựng is lower than Thạch Động; the two sites also differ in their described shapes and cave features.
Mũi Nai and choosing where to stay
The Mũi Nai tourist area is about 5 km from the centre of Ha Tien and has long been known for its beach. Its address is Bà Lý Street, Quarter 3, Pháo Đài Ward, Kiên Giang Province. When looking for a holiday rental, you can first consider whether the market and historic sites or the beach at Mũi Nai will be a greater focus of your stay. The beach area and the town centre are distinct locations; the approximate distance provides a practical reference for weighing up the options.
