Bozköy combines the character of an agricultural village with historical sites. Olive growing shapes the local economy; the historic Hanım Çeşme stands at the entrance to the village, and the cemetery has been registered as an immovable cultural asset worthy of protection. Its woodland character further defines the village.

Location and Character

Bozköy lies southwest of Bergama, 16 kilometres from the district centre. The village is situated at an elevation of about 100 metres and has a woodland character; its economy is also oriented towards agriculture. Its geographical setting, landscape and main local economic activity thus complement one another. When choosing a holiday rental, you can consider whether this combination of woodland character and agriculture suits the focus of your trip.

Olive Growing as an Economic Focus

Olives are grown in Bozköy. In February 2021, the opening of an olive oil factory in Bozköy was reported. At the opening, Muharrem Sezer, chairman of the Bozköy Tarımsal Kalkınma Kooperatifi, said that olives were among the village’s most important sources of livelihood and that the facility was needed to increase production. The project was intended to promote olive growing and enable the olives to generate greater added value. This means the local focus can be considered not only in terms of agriculture in general, but also in relation to cultivation, processing and the production target being pursued.

Historical Traces in Bozköy

Hanım Çeşme, a historic fountain at the entrance to Bozköy, was estimated to be about 150 years old in a post dated 30 July 2020. The origin of its spring water and the history of its construction are not precisely known. Bergama Belediyesi landscaped the area around the fountain to protect it; this measure was reported in 2020.

Bozköy’s cemetery also has a clear cultural and historical significance: on 26 April 2019, it was registered as an immovable cultural asset worthy of protection. About 15 Ottoman gravestones dating from 1816 to 1862 were identified there; they remain in situ, at their original location. The protected status applies to the cemetery, while the approximate number and dates refer to the gravestones. The cemetery’s registration and its specific historical evidence therefore stand side by side.

More Topics in the Bergama Travel Area

The wider Bergama travel area offers other topics of a different kind. The Asklepion of Bergama is a historic healing complex with a library, theatre, temples, sacred water and fountains, as well as an underground passage. The Kozak Plateau is 20 kilometres from Bergama, is considered scenically attractive, and is known for pine nuts and weaving. These destinations offer a thematic comparison: the Asklepion centres on a historic healing complex, while the Kozak Plateau is associated with its landscape, pine nuts and weaving. When choosing a holiday rental, you can compare these attractions with Bozköy’s rural character and decide which themes you want to shape your stay.
