Mecidiye combines a coastline stretching around ten kilometres along the Gulf of Saros with bays, traces of history and the port of İbrice Limanı. The entire southern side of the town lies along the Gulf coast. Depending on whether you want to focus your trip on bays, history or diving, you can choose different priorities for your days there. When choosing a holiday apartment, what matters most is which of these aspects you particularly want to explore in Mecidiye.

Coast and protected bays

The Mecidiye Köyü–Uzunkum Koyu–Kale Koyu (İtalyan Koyu) area was designated a strictly protected sensitive area by Presidential Decision No. 31462 of 22 April 2021. The designation encompasses several named coastal locations.

Kale Koyu is also known as İtalyan Koyu. When planning your trip, you can therefore recognize these names as referring to the same bay. Kale Koyu also contains castle ruins. Along with its natural character, the bay and ruins give this stretch of coast a historical dimension.

Remains of a settlement dating from the 4th century BC can also be found on the coast of Mecidiye. This historical date refers to the settlement remains; the castle ruins in Kale Koyu are a separate sight.

Getting your bearings between Keşan, İbrice and Erikli

Mecidiye lies south of Keşan on provincial road 22.53, which runs between Keşan and the İbrice landing stage. Provincial road 22.55 branches off from Mecidiye and leads to Erikli Beach.

İbrice Limanı is located in Mecidiye and is completely sheltered from waves. It is also considered a special destination for diving enthusiasts. If you are interested in diving, it offers a clear point of reference in the town. If you would rather focus on something else during your stay, you can instead make the bays, coast or historical traces your priority.

Highlights from Mecidiye

Mecidiye Kavunu, the melon from Mecidiye, is also part of the local character. It is known for being grown without irrigation or fertiliser, and is famous for its taste. This adds a culinary connection to the town’s natural and historical highlights. If you like getting to know destinations through their regional produce, this name offers another way to explore Mecidiye.

In Kale Koyu, the municipal administration provides toilets, showers, shaded areas and waste collection for a fee. When planning a visit there, it is also important to know that overnight camping is possible in Kale Koyu. However, pitching a tent directly on the sandy beach and lighting a fire there are prohibited. These rules specifically apply to the sandy beach, so bear them in mind when planning a stay in the bay.

You can explore Mecidiye according to your own interests: its coastal locations and bays, historical traces, the diving-focused destination of İbrice Limanı or the culinary connection of Mecidiye Kavunu.
