Hilmiye is a destination for travelers who want to include forest landscapes and striking natural formations in their vacation plans. Within Hilmiye, Oylat Mesire Yeri includes a 69,000-square-meter permitted area designated for a Type A forest recreation area. The municipal information dates from 2014; if current management is important for your plans, check before your trip. The Oylat Cave and paths to Oylat Waterfall are nearby. The thermal springs are located in the area of the Saadet neighborhood. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore helpful to first decide what you want to focus on: the forest area in Hilmiye, the cave, or the paths and springs in the Oylat area.

Oylat Cave: Chambers, Stalactites and Prehistory

The 665-meter-long Oylat Cave is near Hilmiye, one kilometer south of the village at the end of Oylat Canyon. Its entrance faces the Oylat Stream. Inside, galleries connect two large chambers. Stalactites, stalagmites and columns define the cave, along with wall and curtain formations and dripstone pools. Its animal community is also diverse, including bats, millipedes, butterflies, worms and guanobionts. The entrance area was already used in prehistoric times. You can drive close to the cave. At the entrance to Oylat, there is also a formation known locally as Sivrikaya, which is considered an ancient fault.

Waterfall Trails with Different Starting Points

Two walking trails with different starting points lead to Oylat Waterfall. A 2,000-meter-long trail runs through the forest from the Oylat hotel area to the waterfall. Another, three-kilometer-long trail starts in the Oylat thermal springs area. The routes therefore differ in both starting point and length. The path to the waterfall passes smaller and larger waterfalls as well as wooden bridges. It is worth checking the current condition of the trails before setting out.

The Springs and Their History

The Oylat thermal springs are located in the area of the Saadet neighborhood, 750 meters above sea level and 27 kilometers from İnegöl center. The Oylat Waterfall Ecotourism Area lies between Hilmiye and Saadet and includes the springs. They were used in Roman times and later during the Ottoman period as well. The springs are on the southeastern foothills of Uludağ, in a natural setting of pines, beeches, hornbeams, oaks and chestnuts. This means there are several aspects to consider when planning a trip: the location in Saadet, the elevation, the forest landscape and the long history of use.

Getting There and Choosing a Holiday Apartment Location

An asphalt road runs between İnegöl and the Oylat area. The road between İnegöl and the Oylat hotel area is reported to be 43 kilometers long and fully paved. Check this distance before planning your route. The starting point is also a useful guide for the waterfall trails: the shorter trail begins in the Oylat hotel area, while the longer one starts at the thermal springs.

Oylat Mesire Yeri has a country café and toilets. As the municipal information about these facilities dates from 2014, check before your visit whether they are currently operating. When looking for a holiday apartment in Hilmiye, you can plan your trip around whether you want to focus on the forest area in the village, the nearby cave or the waterfall trails. If the thermal springs are your main destination, also take their location in the Saadet area into account. This helps you choose accommodation based on the destinations you want to visit and their respective starting points.
