Pingtung combines a distinctive tobacco history with five museum themes, parks with varied designs, a 22.85-kilometre cycling route and local food. This gives you a range of options for your trip, from culture and time outdoors to cycling and dining. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, it helps to decide first which of these aspects of Pingtung you’d like to shape your stay.

Tobacco History and Museum Themes

The Pingtung 1936 Tobacco Culture Base includes the Tobacco Leaf Museum, the Hakka Museum, the Indigenous Peoples Museum, the Immersive Museum and the Museum of Art. Their names alone suggest different perspectives: tobacco, Hakka culture and Indigenous peoples sit alongside immersive formats and art. You can choose a cultural focus based on the topics that interest you most.

The Pingtung Tobacco Factory, the predecessor of the Base, is part of its history. It was completed in 1936 and was once Taiwan’s largest primary tobacco-processing factory. After operations ceased in 2002, the county government began restoring the Base’s historic buildings in 2010. The buildings were also included in the Grand Museum Project. This history establishes the Base as a place with an industrial past and subsequent restoration work.

Parks with Different Features

The parks differ in their specific designs. At Pingtung County Park, five former water-treatment tanks have been converted into a sand play area, a trampoline, a waterside path and a performance stage. Peace Park offers play equipment for people of all ages and with different physical abilities, including a slide. The distinction is clear: one park focuses on repurposed tanks and a variety of park features, while the other explicitly caters to people across ages and abilities.

At Fuxing Park, an accessible circular path runs around the pond. Yongda Park has an inclusive playground, a bicycle racing track and a large sand area for children. Shengli Animal-Themed Slide Park has ten animal-shaped slides on soft artificial turf and is designed for children aged five to twelve. These parks offer different features to consider when planning your day: a path around a pond, play and sand areas, a bicycle racing track or a slide area with a specified age group.

Cycling and Local Cuisine

The Railway Bike Path offers a different kind of activity: the 22.85-kilometre route connects Pingtung City with the townships of Linluo, Zhutian and Chaozhou. This lets you choose between individual park visits and a cycling route linking several named destinations. If you’re planning a ride, check local conditions beforehand.

At Pingtung Night Market, food stalls serve Aiyu jelly on ice, a thick soup with mushrooms and pork, Shantou hot pot and steamed meatballs. The latter are a local specialty; specific stalls’ offerings may vary. The food adds a culinary focus to Pingtung’s cultural and active attractions. When looking for a holiday rental, consider which of these interests you want to shape your trip and choose a location that suits the destinations that matter to you.
