Meinong District offers several ways to explore its buildings, take part in traditional crafts and follow a trail at Lingshan. The “美濃開基伯公” at the foot of Lingshan, the 瀰濃庄敬字亭 and the 東門樓 each offer their own historical or architectural highlights. There are also hands-on activities at 美濃民俗村 in the associated township, as well as a hiking route with an approximate round-trip time. You can choose between close-up exploration of historic buildings, making something yourself and walking as you plan your trip. When looking for a holiday rental, it is worth first deciding which of these experiences you want to shape your stay.

Altar, Brick Tower and Gatehouse

The “美濃開基伯公” stands at the foot of Lingshan. It is the oldest 開基伯公壇 in the Meinong area and was built in 1736. Its specific construction year is a clear historical reference point, complemented by the altar’s name and its location at the foot of Lingshan. The 瀰濃庄敬字亭 offers a different perspective on architecture, with its form and decoration taking center stage.

The 瀰濃庄敬字亭 is a hollow, three-story hexagonal brick tower. Its bricks are laid in a herringbone pattern, and colorful, flower-shaped ceramic reliefs decorate the tower. As you look around, you can distinguish its individual details: the hexagonal shape, the three levels, the brickwork pattern and the ceramic decoration. Clear geometric lines meet floral motifs. Anyone who enjoys architectural details will find a different focus here than at the altar, with its construction date of 1736.

The 東門樓 in Meinong was rebuilt as an alarm bell tower during the Japanese colonial period. This offers another historical perspective: the altar is associated with a specific construction year, while the gatehouse is notable for its reconstruction as an alarm bell tower. Together with the brick tower’s form and decoration, these offer three different ways to explore the buildings. If you would like to organize your cultural experiences by theme, you can focus on dating, historical function or architectural design.

Take part or explore on foot

At 美濃民俗村 in the associated township, visitors can decorate traditional oil-paper umbrellas, make pottery on a potter’s wheel and grind Lei Cha. The activities differ: decorating umbrellas, working at the potter’s wheel and grinding offer different ways to take part. When planning your day, you can decide whether you would rather decorate something, make pottery or grind Lei Cha. Check that the activities are currently available before visiting.

The Lingshan hiking trail can be planned as a separate activity. It starts at 雷音寺; the round trip to the triangulation survey point takes approximately one hour. This estimate refers to the there-and-back route to that point and can help you plan your day. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Choose the right focus for your stay

When choosing a holiday rental in Meinong District, consider which of these experiences you want to shape your trip: historic buildings, an activity at 美濃民俗村 or a hike at Lingshan. These are different ways to plan your stay; not every trip needs to include all three. For any specific accommodation, check its location and conditions against your own plans. If you include the hiking trail, 雷音寺 is the starting point and the triangulation survey point is the destination of the approximately one-hour round trip.
