Dacun combines historic architecture with rural experiences and a cycling option for train travelers. The Lai Jinglu Ancestral Memorial Hall brings the history of the Lai family to life through its architecture and commemorative function; at Nanmi Leisure Farm, hands-on activities and rural ecology take center stage. You can plan your trip around culture, activities, and how you travel there.

Architecture and the History of the Lai Family

In Dacun Township, the Lai Jinglu Ancestral Memorial Hall is a traditional Minnan-style building. The main hall features intricate paintings and carvings. Plain red-brick walls define the building, and the paintings on the roof beams on either side of the central interior space are well preserved. On May 20, 2014, the Changhua County Government designated the hall a county monument.

The Lai family had the building constructed around 1937 in memory of Lai Jinglu, the founding ancestor of the family line that immigrated to Taiwan. The work was carried out by Master Zhang, a builder from Beishizai, north of what is now Nanshi Village. The hall therefore connects a specific architectural history with the commemoration of a person and a family line.

The Lai family flagpole group in Dacun is also part of the town’s history: the Changhua County Government registered it as a historic building in 2014. The family history also includes honors awarded to Lai Puyuan and his grandsons. In 1818, the Jiaqing Emperor granted Lai Puyuan the title of civil juren; in 1859, his grandsons Lai Buyun and Lai Dengyun both became military jurens. The two dates record different distinctions across two generations.

The rooms at the Wu-Kui New Residence have clearly defined uses: the main hall and pavilion are used for ancestral rites, while the two side wings are the family’s private living quarters. This distinction is key to understanding the residence and its role in family life.

Rural Experiences and Getting There

At Nanmi Leisure Farm, visitors can pick fruit, take part in DIY and group activities, and experience rural ecology. If you are planning a visit, check the current arrangements beforehand. The farm offers a different focus from the historic buildings: activities and experiencing rural ecology take center stage here.

Grape picking is a seasonal option from June to August and December to February; harvest times can vary from year to year. If picking grapes is important to your trip, plan your dates according to current conditions.

For train travelers, MOOVO bike stations can make it easier to get to local government offices and attractions. A notice dated March 20, 2025, lists eight stations in Dacun Township: at the front and rear exits of Dacun Station, at the Dacun Township Office, by Ciyun Temple, in Dacun’s Second Children’s Park, at Da-Yeh University, by Lequn Dormitory, and at Daqiaotou Cifeng Temple. Check the stations’ current operating status and availability before setting off.

When choosing a holiday apartment in Dacun, consider what best suits your trip: Lai family history and architecture, activities at the farm, or arriving by train and including bike stations in your plans. The seasonal grape-picking periods are another specific factor to consider when choosing your travel dates.
