A crater lake, high mountain landscapes, Indigenous traditions, and thrilling rides give Bukidnon many different sides. When planning your trip, first consider whether you’re most interested in water activities, culture, nature, or adventure. These interests can help you choose a vacation rental in Bukidnon that suits the focus of your trip.

Lake Apo: Crater Lake and Water Activities

Lake Apo is a 24-hectare crater lake surrounded by rolling terrain and green shrubs. This landscape gives the area a distinctive character: here, the focus is on the water rather than a mountain backdrop. Activities at the lake include overnight camping, daytime barbecues, kayaking, and jet skiing. The options range from spending time by the water to enjoying a meal outdoors and taking part in activities on the lake. For planning your day, the difference between a daytime barbecue and overnight camping is a practical one; kayaking and jet skiing offer two active ways to enjoy the water at the same lake.

Mountain Nature of Special Significance

Mount Kitanglad reaches an elevation of 2,938 meters and is one of the seven ASEAN Heritage Parks in the Philippines. Bukidnon’s mountain ranges are home to the Bukidnon forest chicken, the Philippine eagle, and the Rafflesia. Nature enthusiasts can therefore focus on both a specific elevation and notable species. As a vacation theme, the mountain landscape is distinctly different from the crater lake: here, the mountain ranges and their animal and plant life define the natural setting.

Kaamulan Festival and Indigenous Culture

Every year, from the second half of February through March 10, the Kaamulan Festival brings together seven Indigenous groups in the province of Bukidnon, particularly in Malaybalay City: the Bukidnon, Higaonon, Talaandig, Manobo, Matigsalug, Tigwahanon, and Umayamnon. They come together to celebrate the harvest and give thanks. If the festival is an important reason for your trip, factor this period into your plans.

Another facet of the region’s culture is the Tagolwanen Women Weavers Association. Since 2012, it has promoted Indigenous art and cultural identity, and passed traditional skills on to younger generations. It also works to empower Tagolwanen women. In this way, its work with art and traditional skills complements the festival’s annual gathering with a distinct perspective on cultural transmission.
