The municipality of Daanbantayan is considered a tourist destination known for diving; its offerings are linked to the island barangays of Malapascua and Carnaza. Within the municipality, beaches and underwater scenery sit alongside named island destinations and local festival culture. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these themes together with the relevant boat connections.

Malapascua: Beaches and Dive Sites

Malapascua Island is known for its fine white-sand beaches and clear water. There are also distinctive attractions underwater: dive sites near Malapascua are associated with sightings of thresher sharks and Japanese shipwrecks. Wildlife encounters and wrecks offer different points of interest alongside the island’s beaches. If you are interested in staying in this part of the municipality, these beach and diving attractions can shape your trip planning.

Carnaza and the Haladaya Festival

On Carnaza, visitor destinations include Isla La Manok, with its long sandbar, the islet of Dakit-Dakit, Skull Cove, and Carnaza EcoPark. Carnaza thus offers a different travel experience from Malapascua: several individually named places are the main attractions here, while Malapascua is associated with beaches and dive sites.

The Haladaya Festival adds a cultural perspective to the island and diving themes. It includes a street-dancing competition and a grand finale. Participants perform ritual dances in elaborate costumes, with props, gleaming shields, and colorful headdresses.

The municipality has three major municipal wharves, one each in Tapilon, Maya, and Poblacion. The Maya RoRo Port serves ships to Logon and Calbayog in Samar. Maya Port also serves as a departure point for trips to Malapascua. Boats depart daily from Tapilon Wharf for Carnaza, while boats to Kinatarcan Island run regularly from Poblacion. Regular motorized bangkas connect mainland Daanbantayan with the island barangays of Carnaza and Logon, as well as Kinatarcan Island. Before your trip, check the schedule for the boat connection you plan to use.

When looking for a vacation rental, you can first decide which island connection matters for your trip and factor the relevant departure point into your choice of location: Maya Port for Malapascua, Tapilon for Carnaza, or Poblacion for Kinatarcan.
