Discover Bintulu: Culture, Nature and Waterfronts
Accommodation in Bintulu
In Bintulu, there are plenty of points of interest, from Pasar Malam to sacred architecture, waterfront locations and a large attraction offering insights into Sarawak’s flora and fauna. If you are travelling with children or several generations, you can first consider what mix of themes suits your group: culture, nature, water or different activities. This decision also gives your search for a holiday rental direction. Think about which sides of Bintulu you want to shape your stay.
Markets, architecture and history
According to local information, Pasar Malam in Bintulu takes place daily, on weekdays, weekends and local public holidays. If you plan your market visit in advance, confirm the date locally. This lets you take the recurring market into account when planning your trip.
Kuan Yin Tong Temple is located at Kilometer 2 of Jalan Sultan Iskandar. Its courtyard includes a stone garden, an artificial waterfall and dragon railings. These design features give the place its own character and provide a specific point of interest for travellers who are interested in sacred architecture and its details. Masjid Assyakirin also has distinctive design features, including an artificial cascading waterfall, fountains and a landscaped flower garden. Water and gardens are therefore a recurring theme when comparing the two sacred sites.
A clearly dated chapter in Sarawak’s history also leads to Bintulu: the first meeting of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly was held here in 1867. This historical event adds a political connection to the past to the visible architectural impressions. Those interested in culture can consider architectural design and urban history as two distinct focuses for their trip.
Waterfronts, beaches and landscapes
Bintulu Promenade is a 120-acre waterfront development for commercial and recreational use near the delta of the Kemena River; it runs along the Kemena River. Its stated size and connection to the river give the place both a distinct landscape and an urban character. Bintulu Esplanade is also regularly used for health and social activities as well as stage shows. Individual programmes may vary, so if you are interested, check the specific event dates before your visit. The riverfront and recurring activities thus offer different points of reference for your planning.
Pantai Tanjung Batu is about five kilometres from Bintulu town centre. Pantai Tanjung Kidurong, also known as Pantai ABF, is located in Tanjung Kidurong in Bintulu, at the end of the route from Pantai Temasya Tanjung Batu. The locations can be distinguished by different geographical points of reference: for Pantai Tanjung Batu, it is the approximate distance from the town centre; for Pantai Tanjung Kidurong, it is its named location and route connection to Pantai Temasya Tanjung Batu.
Taman Tumbina Bintulu offers insights into the diversity of Sarawak’s flora and fauna. The attraction covers 57 hectares of hilly, undulating terrain and was inaugurated on 2 August 1991. Its size and terrain give the nature experience a distinct scale, while flora and fauna are its thematic focus. Those who want to give greater weight to nature and wildlife on their trip will find a different point of interest here than at the waterfront locations.
Bintulu Golf Course is an 18-hole golf course with hilly, undulating terrain. Unlike Taman Tumbina, the focus here is not on insights into flora and fauna, but on the golf course and its terrain. The two descriptions thus place different emphasis on landscapes and activities.
Experiences as a guide to choosing a holiday rental
When choosing a holiday rental, you can start by sorting out your travel group’s interests: do you want markets, history and sacred architecture to shape your stay, or are you more interested in nature, waterfronts and beaches? The esplanade and golf course also offer other themes that may influence your planning. If several interests come together, decide which ones matter most for your stay. This way, you can focus your search on the type of trip you want rather than relying on a blanket recommendation for all travellers.
