Two Ōsato community bus routes stop at Kinosaki Branch Hall: Ōmatsuzawa–Nakamura and Kasukawa–Ōmatsuzawa. The parks, cultural sites, and regional attractions of the municipality it belongs to also offer plenty to explore. If you’re looking for a vacation rental in Kinosaki, it helps to distinguish the location itself from destinations elsewhere in the municipality when planning your trip. Check the current bus schedule before setting out.

Parks Through the Seasons

The parks in the municipality offer a range of landscapes. In spring, cherry blossoms and rapeseed flowers bloom side by side in Tsukidate Park. The park sits on a steep hill, with views across the rural landscape. Hanadate Park also has seasonal highlights: cherry trees grow on its summit, and flowers including hydrangeas and azaleas bloom there at different times of year. In spring, it’s a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing.

In autumn, foliage colors the Ōkubō Castle Ruins Park. Its elevated location offers views across the rural landscape of Ōsato. The parks highlight different seasons: cherry and rapeseed blossoms in spring, other flowers at Hanadate Park, and autumn foliage at Ōkubō Castle Ruins Park.

Culture and Stories Passed Down Through the Generations

The municipality’s cultural sites also tell different stories. At the summit of Seigamori Park stands a monument engraved with a poem by haiku poet Midorijo Abe. An inscription on the roof of Kashima Shrine bears the date 1533; the shrine is said to have been founded around 500 years ago. According to tradition, it was built to pray for victories in battle and the protection of Ōkubō Castle. Ōkubō Castle was the residence of the Ōmatsuzawa (Miyazawa) clan, who lived there until the Meiji period.

Another regional memory is associated with Hasekura Tsunenaga. Hasekura Tsunenaga Memorial Park in Ōsato was developed around the approach to his grave. A tombstone inscribed with “梅安清公禅定門 支倉氏” is attributed to Hasekura, and visitors come from Miyagi Prefecture and throughout Japan. Yatate Shrine has its own origin story: according to tradition, in 807 Sakanoue no Tamuramaro enshrined a deity at the spot where an arrow he had shot during a stay landed.

Miyabayashi Kagura combines elements of Yamabushi Kagura with legends and tales, along with original additions. It is also known as Nanbu Kagura Miwa-ryū and Juniban Kagura. The shrine priests and attendants of Niwatari Shrine in Dobashi passed down and performed it as the shrine’s kagura. For a long time, it remained largely closed to outsiders. When Niwatari Shrine was incorporated into Shinmei Shrine in Nakamura in Meiji 41, Miyabayashi Kagura was also shared with the general public.

Another recurring tradition is the Hanyu rice-planting dance, performed every year at the Tenjin Shrine’s offering ceremony for the old New Year. Its ceremonial setting is as much a part of the tradition as its connection to the old New Year.

Regional Attractions and Family Ideas

A visit to GoGo Land Park offers a special family-friendly feature: opposite Ōsato Roadside Station stands the ship-shaped wooden play structure “Yanchamaru Tsunenaga,” a reminder of the San Juan Bautista ship. Ōsato Concierge provides regional tourist information and a picnic map for families created by its staff.

Regional products also offer a glimpse of what the municipality has to offer. Ōsato Roadside Station sells souvenirs featuring zunda and moroheiya, as well as processed local products and crafts. The restaurant serves moroheiya udon, hot or cold, and moroheiya noodles; if a particular dish matters to you, check the current menu. Ōsato Healthy Vegetable Market has a direct-sales outlet for freshly harvested vegetables bearing the “Ōsato Healthy Vegetable” designation.

If you have a specific destination in mind, take its location into account and check the appropriate route when planning your trip.
