Nanporo: Nature, Water and Active Excursions
Accommodation in Nanporo
Nanporo combines nature experiences with a variety of ways to enjoy an active holiday. At the Nanporo Nature Observation Education Forest, marked walking trails wind through the forest, while fishing and picnicking are popular at Mie Lake. Other recreational activities include park golf, soccer and go-karting. When planning your holiday, you can start by deciding whether you would rather focus on time by the water, exploring nature or taking part in sports.
Forest Trails and Nature Observation
The Nanporo Nature Observation Education Forest covers 5.59 hectares of Nanporo’s only national forest, within an area designated as a windbreak forest. Marked walking trails invite you to explore the forest; the area is also used for nature excursions and insect collecting. If you are travelling with children, you can make your visit an opportunity to observe and discover things together. Insect collecting is also one of the activities mentioned. This nature excursion offers a different experience from a day focused mainly on sports or activities at the lake.
Fishing and Picnicking at Mie Lake
Mie Lake is a popular place for families to fish and picnic. One distinctive feature of the lake is its particularly large crucian carp. The lake also has bungalows, a water play area and a family campsite. These facilities give a stay by the water its own focus: you can combine time at the lake with fishing or a picnic and include the water play area as another part of your outing. In winter, smelt ice fishing takes place on Mie Lake.
Outdoor Sports and Recreation
Nanporo Riverside Park is located in the Yūbari River floodplain and is laid out as a sports park. Activities listed there include go-karting, soccer, park golf and camping; there are also other recreational and leisure opportunities by the water. Mie Green Park Campsite adjoins Nanporo Riverside Park. From there, you can combine camping with sports such as baseball and soccer. This offers a different focus for your holiday than an outing centred on forest trails or fishing at the lake.
Nanporo Riverside Kartland is a public go-kart track recognised by JAF. The track is 727 metres long and 8 metres wide, with a longest straight of 120 metres. You can drive your own or a rented kart there. Park golf at Nanporo Central Park has 18 holes, divided between two courses of nine holes each. The course features numerous changes in elevation. If you are comparing park golf and go-karting, these are two clearly different ways to enjoy active recreation: a round on two park golf courses or laps on a designated go-kart track.
In clear weather, distinctive mountains can be seen in different directions from Mie Green Park Campsite: the Tokachi Range to the east, Mount Teine to the west, Mount Eniwa and Mount Tarumae to the south, and the mountains of Shokanbetsu to the north. These views depend on clear weather.
Local Products and Travel Plans to Suit You
Regional foods are also among the things to discover in Nanporo. The shop at Nanporo Onsen sells, among other things, kimchi made with cabbage, Chinese cabbage and daikon, as well as sanshōzuke and Nanban miso. This selection adds a taste of local products to the outdoor activities.
When looking for a vacation rental or holiday home in Nanporo, you can also consider your preferred location. The different highlights can help you shape your travel plans without requiring you to include all the activities in the same outing.
