Kaimana: City Views, Coast and Culture
Accommodation in Kaimana
Kaimana offers views over the city, distinctive coastal landscapes nearby and cultural discoveries in the region. From the Bukit 7ujuh Senja viewpoint, you can look out over Kaimana from an elevated position; nearby Teluk Triton is known for its coral islands and clear water. Desa Namatota adds handicrafts and history to the mix. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore worth considering whether you want to focus on Kaimana itself or also include destinations in the surrounding area.
City Views and Coastal Landscapes
The Bukit 7ujuh Senja viewpoint is provided by the Kaimana Regional Government through its Office of Culture and Tourism for elevated views over the city. It is located on the road to Kolam Sisir, about 150 metres from the roadside. Access is considered easy. Bukit 7ujuh Senja therefore offers a direct connection to the city, while nearby Teluk Triton offers a different focus.
Nearby Teluk Triton, by Saria, has groups of coral islands, clear water and coral formations. Its waters are considered suitable for snorkelling and exploring. Prehistoric rock paintings can be seen on the cliffs of Maimai. The waters of Erana are also home to whale sharks. Whale sharks (Rhincodon typus), known as Fir’umbo in Papua, are often seen in Teluk Triton and are considered a visitor attraction in Kabupaten Kaimana; however, sightings are not guaranteed.
Desa Namatota: Handicrafts and History
You can reach nearby Desa Namatota from the port in Kaimana by speedboat in about 60 minutes. The speedboat charter from Pelabuhan Kota Kaimana to Teluk Triton is also stated to take approximately one hour. The charter has been quoted at around 5–6 million rupiah per boat. Treat this amount as a time-dependent guide and confirm the current price before making plans. The approximate journey times are similar; the destinations differ mainly in the experiences they offer.
In Desa Namatota, diving, culture, history, sunsets and village tours are among the visitor attractions on offer. Local craftswomen make Tomang by hand from coastal pandan leaves, locally called Ram. In the wider region, Desa Namatota is also the centre of the Namatota Kingdom. It has existed since around the 16th century and is still recognised.
Culture in Kaimana and Getting Around
The 2024 and 2025 editions of the Pesona Senja Kaimana festival at Taman Kota Kaimana included cultural performances, creative dances, demonstrations of traditional Papuan clothing and entertainment for the public. This cultural range spans handmade Tomang in Namatota and dance and clothing demonstrations in Kaimana. Nearby Utarom Airport is located in Kampung Trikora, Distrik Kaimana, Kabupaten Kaimana.
When choosing a holiday apartment in Kaimana, you can first consider how much of your trip you want to spend in the town itself and how much on destinations nearby. The approximately one-hour speedboat journeys to Desa Namatota and Teluk Triton provide a concrete timeframe: Namatota offers handicrafts and village tours, among other things, while Teluk Triton combines coral landscapes, snorkelling and rock art.
