Sukabumi brings together urban history, diverse cultural perspectives and opportunities for active exploration. Museum topics range from historical collections to the culture of the Peranakan Chinese community. City tours have their own focus, while river tubing and hot springs offer a different kind of stay. You can choose your holiday rental based on which aspects of Sukabumi interest you most.

Museums with different perspectives

The Prabu Siliwangi Museum devotes three rooms to the history of Prabu Siliwangi, Islamic history and general history. Its collections include material cultural heritage from archaeology, geology, technology, ceramics, philology, heraldry, history and fine art. Maen Boles and Ngagotong Lisung, traditional cultural practices, are also associated with the museum. The Pegadaian Museum offers another historical connection: it is located at the site of the first Pegadaian office in Indonesia, which has been in operation since 1901.

The Ki Pahare Museum houses hundreds of historical artefacts from prehistoric, classical and colonial times. The museum aims to introduce the public to Sundanese culture. The Tionghoa Soekaboemi Museum has a different focus: its historical collections span four floors and explore the history and culture of the Peranakan Chinese community. It is also a heritage destination and a study centre for the public and academic circles. Those wishing to make a range of historical and cultural topics the focus of their stay will find several different points of interest here.

City tours and calligraphy

The Sukabumi Walking Tour explores parts of the city on foot, combining recreation, education and city promotion. The Sukabumi City Tour presents history, culture, education and community life; it was designed to introduce the identity of Kota Sukabumi as a whole. The two offerings provide different ways to explore: one takes you through parts of the city, while the other looks at urban life across several subject areas.

LEMKA also has a clear cultural focus. The centre is dedicated to learning Islamic calligraphy and has an international outlook. Visitors can observe the learning process and calligraphy works. This also offers a simple guide when choosing a holiday rental: if you would like to focus your stay on museums, city tours and culture, these attractions can help guide your search for a suitable location.

River, hot springs and active experiences

Kawasan Cikundul is a visitor area in the Kecamatan Lembursitu of Kota Sukabumi, on the banks of the Cimandiri. Another distinctive feature is the natural water of Pemandian Air Panas Cikundul: a 2024 description characterises it as hotter than that of other hot springs; its components are considered potentially beneficial to health. This is an attributed assessment of a possible effect, not a medical guarantee.

River tubing on the Pontang-Panting rapids, using inflatable tubes, is offered in Kampung Eduwisata Kadulawang. A report dated 10 July 2025 describes experienced guides supervising and instructing participants. In the same report, following verification by an Arung Jeram certification team, the activity was described as suitable and safe for children and older people. This assessment at the time is not a current safety guarantee; check current conditions and the availability of the activity and guides before taking part.

Local speciality and regional context

Kue mochi is a well-known speciality of Sukabumi. At Jalan Otista No. 39, an unfilled variety called Kiathong and a peanut-filled variety are available. The availability of individual varieties may change. If local cuisine is one of your travel interests, this speciality offers a distinctive culinary highlight alongside the museums and cultural attractions.

In the broader destination of West Java, the Ciletuh-Palabuhanratu UNESCO Global Geopark offers a different focus on nature and activities. It is located on Java in western Sukabumi Regency, on an active subduction zone between the Eurasian and Indo-Australian plates, which continue to converge at 4 mm per year. The geopark’s landscape includes waterfalls, beaches, geysers, rivers, mountains, a wildlife reserve and turtle conservation. Activities mentioned there include surfing, paragliding, rafting, canoeing, snorkelling and forest trekking, among others. This regional context differs thematically from the museums and city attractions in Kota Sukabumi.

For location reference: Terminal Tipe A KH. Ahmad Sanusi Sukabumi is at Jl. Lingkar Selatan No. 7 in Kelurahan Sudajaya Hilir, Kecamatan Baros, Kota Sukabumi. For your stay, you can first decide whether you would prefer to focus on urban history and culture, local cuisine or water-based activities. Base your holiday rental search on your preferred focus.
