Lagoi: Coast, Lake and 3D Sets
Accommodation in Lagoi
Lagoi offers a range of options for a trip: a long coastline, a freshwater lake and specially designed 3D sets. If you’re looking for a holiday rental, you can start by asking yourself which of these highlights you want to shape your stay: time at the beach, activities on the water or a visit focused on art and illusion.
Beach, Plaza and 3D Illusions
According to Bintan Resorts, Lagoi Beach has a coastline approximately 3.5 kilometres long and is the only public beach within Bintan Resorts. Its approximate length gives an idea of the extent of the coastline; its public status distinguishes the beach within the resort area. For travellers particularly interested in the coast, Lagoi Beach is a specific point of reference when exploring the area.
Plaza Lagoi is in the heart of Lagoi on Bintan Island. Lagoi Lake, a freshwater lake, is located in the southern part of the plaza. The coastline and lake offer different landscape highlights, while the plaza also provides a point of orientation for other experiences. The Rumah Imaji 3D Imagination House in the plaza offers a very different way of seeing: it features more than 50 different 3D and inverted sets, including hand-painted mural illusions by artists from Yogyakarta. The museum’s first section is designed as an inverted traditional Malay house. The attraction thus combines illusion art with a specific architectural motif.
The Sea Sports Center at Lagoi Bay Beach offers jet skiing, banana boat rides, the Great Mable ride and snorkelling. These activities provide a different focus from visiting the sets or taking in the landscape. If you’d like to include this activity, confirm availability with the operator before your visit.
Riau as a broader travel destination: nature and history
The broader travel destination of Riau also offers its own themes for trip planning. Tesso Nilo National Park is a lowland rainforest in Riau Province and covers 83,068 hectares. Another landscape is found in Zamrud National Park: the area in Siak Regency was officially designated a peatland area on 22 July 2016. In the national park, visitors can take a boat on the Sungai Rawa to Danau Pulau Besar. Rainforest, peatland and a river boat trip offer different regional highlights from the experiences in Lagoi.
For culture and history, Siak Regency is home to Istana Siak Asserayah Al-Hasyimiah, which was designated a museum by Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture. Istana Siak is regarded as a historical landmark of Malay history and as a testament to the heyday of the Sultanate of Siak, as well as Sultan Syarif Kasim II’s efforts for Indonesia’s independence. Candi Muara Takus, a Buddhist temple complex in the village of Muara Takus, in XIII Koto Kampar District and Kampar Regency in Riau Province, offers another way to explore history. Materials used to build the complex include bricks, sandstone and river stones.
Traditions and events in Riau
The annual Pacu Jalur Festival in Kuantan Singingi celebrates a centuries-old tradition. In Pacu Jalur, teams of rowers compete in jalur—boats made from hollowed-out tree trunks. Each boat is made from a single tree, measures 25 to 40 metres long and accommodates 45 to 60 rowers. These dimensions make it clear that this traditional competition is not about a small boat, but about the coordinated effort of a large rowing team. Check the event dates for the year you plan to travel.
Another annual event is Bakar Tongkang, a ritual of the Chinese community in Bagansiapiapi, Riau. The exact dates follow the Chinese calendar. The Bekudo Bono Festival takes place every year in November on the Kampar River in Teluk Meranti, Pelalawan, Riau. The festival programme includes a Bono wave race, surfing competitions for professionals and amateurs, music and cultural performances, and traditional games. If you’re planning a visit, it’s worth checking the dates and programme for the year in question.
