Railway History at the Kereta Api Bondowoso Museum

The Kereta Api Bondowoso Museum is located at the former Bondowoso station in Kademangan. Its collections include signalling and telecommunications equipment, historic Edmonson tickets, miniature steam locomotives and former Bondowoso station work equipment. Technical equipment, tickets, models and objects from everyday working life come together here. Together, they offer different points of connection to railway history, from communications and signals to the tools and objects associated with the station. The museum was intended to become the first and only railway-specialist museum in Jawa Timur Province.

Culture and Activities at Alun Alun

At the Singo Ulung Festival marking the turn of 2024/2025, on 31 December 2024, the programme included a parade featuring 100 Singo Ulung around Kecamatan Kota Bondowoso. The festival venue was Alun-alun Raden Bagus Asra. At the Car Free Day at Alun Alun RBA Ki Bagus Asra, you can go jogging, walking and cycling, as well as shop for souvenirs and typical Bondowoso foods. In the Wider Bondowoso Destination: Nature and Activities

The Ijen Geopark is also one of the themes in the wider Bondowoso destination: it encompasses Kabupaten Bondowoso as one of its two regency areas. Kawah Wurung is in Kalianyar village, Kecamatan Ijen, Kabupaten Bondowoso. Green hills and grassland shape the landscape. A depression resembling a crater gave the place its name, although there is no crater there. Air Terjun Tancak Kembar is in Kabupaten Bondowoso, East Java, and consists of two side-by-side waterfalls. Air Terjun Blawan is also located in Kalianyar village, Kecamatan Ijen. The waterfall is the lower course of sulphurous seepage from the Ijen crater and is surrounded by macadamia trees and moss. At its outflow, the water flows directly into the ground. The wider destination therefore brings together different landscape features: a crater-like depression without a crater and a waterfall whose water disappears into the ground at its outflow.

The Pusat Informasi Megalitikum Bondowoso (PIMB) is part of the wider destination’s cultural heritage. It was established near the Pekauman megalithic site as an educational institution about Bondowoso’s megalithic heritage and provides information about the site’s objects. There are also other options for active pursuits: the rafting route at Bosamba includes 23 rapids; Bosamba Rafting is in Krocok village, Kecamatan Taman Krocok. Puncak Megasari is a mountain area in Kecamatan Ijen with a paragliding launch site. Blue flames may appear at the Ijen crater at sunrise. This phenomenon is known as Blue Fire and usually occurs around 5 a.m.; visibility conditions may vary. The wider destination thus offers both nature-watching and water- and air-sport experiences.
