Ranchi combines striking hills with religious and cultural attractions: at Tagore Hill, scenic views meet opportunities for climbing, while Pahari Mandir is a temple dedicated to Shiva on a hilltop. There is also a museum with dioramas of the ways of life of Jharkhand’s 32 tribes, and a memorial park. The variety of themes gives you several specific points of interest during your stay.

Hills, Views and Temples

At the foot of Tagore Hill is the Ramkrishna Mission Ashram. It is also the center of the Agrarian Vocational Institute and Divyayan. From the summit of Tagore Hill, you can watch the sun rise and set. This hill therefore brings together two distinct points of interest: the views from the summit and the Ashram’s institutional role at its foot. Adventure enthusiasts and rock climbers also meet at Tagore Hill; the views and opportunities for climbing give the place different reasons to visit.

Tagore Hill is accessible by rickshaw, taxi and auto-rickshaw, which can be hired anywhere in the city. If you include the hill in your plans, you can consider these modes of transport for getting there.

Pahari Mandir offers a different focus. The temple, dedicated to Shiva, is on a hill in the heart of Ranchi and at the summit of the 2,140-foot Ranchi Hill. There are 468 steps leading up to the summit of Pahari Mandir. While Tagore Hill is known for views of the sunrise and sunset and for bringing rock climbers together, Pahari Mandir puts the temple’s dedication and the stairway to the top in the foreground. The two hills therefore differ in what they offer visitors: views and climbing at Tagore Hill, and a temple and stairway at Pahari Mandir.

Cultural Themes and Shared Experiences

The Tribal Museum features dioramas of the traditional ways of life of Jharkhand’s 32 tribes. Sidhu & Kanhu Park commemorates Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu, leaders of the Santhal rebellion, which began in the 1850s. The places differ in what they focus on: the museum presents ways of life, while the park is a place of historical remembrance. If you want to include cultural history in your travel plans, you can choose between an exhibition and a memorial site.

Rock Garden is also used as a picnic spot for larger groups. It thus adds a communal activity to the attractions centered on temples, views and exhibitions. Here, the focus is on picnicking in a larger group. If you are planning a trip with several people, you can consider this as a distinct feature of your Ranchi trip.

Use Activities to Guide Your Accommodation Search

When looking for a vacation rental in Ranchi, you can use the kind of day you want to have as a guide: would you prefer a stay centered on hills and temples, cultural themes, or a picnic with a larger group? The destinations differ in what they offer visitors and what they focus on.
