Ramnagar: Rail links, the Kosi and nearby temples
Accommodation in Ramnagar
Ramnagar combines a prominent role in rail transport with nearby nature and temple destinations. It is the closest rail connection to Corbett Tiger Reserve and also the terminus of a broad-gauge branch line. Nearby, the Kosi, Garjiya Devi Temple and the park’s forests come together. When choosing a holiday rental, this raises a specific question: should travelling by rail be the deciding factor, or are a temple visit and nature experience the main priorities? These different interests make Ramnagar an appealing arrival point and base for planning your trip.
Getting there and choosing a location
The North East Railway’s broad-gauge branch line runs from Delhi via Moradabad to Ramnagar, where it terminates. Ramnagar is also connected by road to Delhi and Lucknow. When choosing a holiday rental, it may help to work out how you will travel there first: Ramnagar offers both a rail terminus and the two road connections mentioned above. This distinction can serve as an initial filter in your search: if you arrive by train, the terminus is clearly identified; if you travel by road, Delhi and Lucknow are the two stated reference points.
Dhangarhi, the main entrance to Corbett Tiger Reserve, is nearby. It is on the Ramnagar–Ranikhet road, about 19 km from Ramnagar. This gives you two different reference points for finding your way around: Ramnagar is the closest rail connection to the reserve, while Dhangarhi is its main entrance. If you are planning both your arrival and a visit to the reserve, this distinction helps you tell the arrival point apart from the entrance.
By the Kosi: rocks and Garjiya Devi Temple
On the way to Dhikala, about 10 km from Ramnagar, a large rock rises from the Kosi riverbed. Garjiya Devi Temple stands on its summit. Here, the riverbed, rock and temple together shape the landscape; the temple is part of a striking waterside setting.
Garjiya Devi Temple is in the village of Garjiya near Ramnagar and is visited by locals and devotees from across Uttarakhand. The approach crosses a bridge over the Kosi and then climbs 60 steps. Devotees worship Garjiya Devi; after praying, they bathe in the clear waters of the Kosi. At this destination, the village, river crossing, ascent and religious practice are all part of the experience. If you enjoy combining scenery with a place shaped by religious traditions, this is a specific point of interest.
Forest scenery in the Bijrani Safari Zone
The Bijrani Safari Zone of Corbett Tiger Reserve offers a different perspective. It allows day visits with views of the park’s forests and is conveniently close to Ramnagar. In contrast to Garjiya Devi Temple, the focus here is on forest scenery, while the Kosi and worship are central there. These different interests may influence your accommodation choice: the park’s forests or a temple by the river.
