Pratapgarh offers a distinctive perspective on religious sites and traditions: temples on the Sai River, life-size divine figures and regular worship rituals each provide a different focus. If you would like to make cultural experiences a priority for your family, you can choose destinations according to which shrines and stories interest you. Bela Devi Temple, Shani Dev Dham and Bhakti Mandir each offer their own thematic perspective.

Riverside temples and distinctive names

Bela Devi Temple is located on the banks of the Sai River. Locally, it is also known as “Bela Mai” or the mother goddess Bela. There is a specific distance to help you find this site: the temple is about 2 km from Pratapgarh railway station and approximately the same distance from the bus station.

Ghusmeshwar Nath Dham is also located on the banks of the Sai. The temple is considered the holiest pilgrimage site in this region. Those interested in religious significance will find a different focus here from that of Bela Devi Temple, which is also known by its local name, Bela Mai. Devotees come to Baba Ghuisarnath Dham from distant places. Both sites are pilgrimage destinations in their own right; you can consider their respective features independently when planning your trip.

Rituals and representations

Shani Dev Dham is dedicated to Shani Dev and is located in the village of Kushfara, near Vishwanathganj. People gather there every Saturday to perform special worship rituals. Saturday is therefore a specific time to keep in mind for this site. The same grounds also contain temples dedicated to Hanuman and Manokamana. Several religious dedications thus stand side by side at this site, without the rituals being combined into a single offering.

Another form of religious representation can be found at Bhakti Mandir in Kunda Tehsil of Pratapgarh District. The ground floor features life-size divine figures of Radha Krishna, while the first floor has life-size figures of Sita Ram. The layout by floor also makes the site easy for families to understand: each pair of figures is clearly assigned to a separate area of the temple.

The old Shiva temple, Baba Bhayaharan Nath Dham, is located in the village of Katra Gulab Singh on the banks of the Bakulahi River. It houses a Shiva Linga that tradition holds was installed by the Pandavas. The saints Shri Naga Baba and Shri Dandi Baba are also part of the temple’s history: they stayed there, worshipped Shiva and served the temple for many years. This site thus connects religious worship with a traditional account and the memory of long years of temple service.
