Gondia offers plenty of reasons to explore both its natural attractions and cultural history. In the southern part of the district lies Navegaon National Park, where a reservoir, boat trips and a diverse vertebrate fauna offer opportunities to discover nature. Elsewhere, ancient caves, temples and culturally significant sights tell of different traditions.

Nature in Navegaon National Park and Nagzira

The reservoir in Navegaon National Park is popular for boat trips. The park's vertebrate fauna includes 209 bird species, giving visitors interested in birdlife and nature a particular focus for their stay. The national park also has a zoological museum and a library, offering other ways to explore nature-related topics.

You can also plan your journey to Navegaon National Park by bus and train. The nearest railway station is Deulgaon, on the Gondia–Chandrapur line. You can take this rail connection into account when planning your visit.

Nagzira Wildlife Sanctuary extends across the districts of Bhandara and Gondia. More than 166 bird species have been recorded there. On jeep safaris, knowledgeable guides help visitors spot wild animals. If this is your focus, you can distinguish between wildlife watching in the sanctuary and the attractions of Navegaon National Park when planning your trip, rather than treating the two areas as a single excursion destination.

Hazara Falls is a major tourist attraction during the rainy season. Bodhalkasa, in turn, is known for its picturesque reservoir and the surrounding natural landscape. These different natural features each give your trip a distinct focus: waterfalls during the rainy season, a reservoir, or the wildlife and birdlife of the protected areas.

Caves, temples and cultural discoveries

Kachargadh in Gondia district has natural caves that are 25,000 years old. Padampur, in Amgaon tehsil, is considered the birthplace of the Sanskrit writer Bhavabhuti. Numerous ancient figures of gods and saints have also been found in the area around the village. The place is therefore associated both with a literary tradition and with archaeological finds.

Nagra is home to a 15th-century Shiva temple built in the Hemadpanthi style. Another religious site is the Chakradhar Swami Temple in Dakram Sukdi, in Tirora tehsil. It is known for its natural setting by the Bodhalkasa reservoir and the nearby hills. If you are interested in temples, these places offer different points of interest: historic architecture in Nagra and the combination of temple and landscape in Dakram Sukdi.

The Tibetan Camp in Gothangaon has a Buddhist temple and other sights of significance to Tibetans. Along with the temples in Nagra and Dakram Sukdi, this place broadens the cultural mix with Tibetan influences. If both nature and culture matter to you, you can weigh these interests as you choose which places to visit.

Weighing up travel interests and holiday rentals

Pratapgadh hosts an annual three-day Shivratri festival organised by the local administration. The festival offers a distinct opportunity to combine your trip with a cultural event. When looking for a holiday rental, it makes sense to first decide what you want your trip to focus on: for example, wildlife watching, temples and historic sites, or a visit during the festival. Your choice of focus will give your trip a different character.
