Discover Damoh
Accommodation in Damoh
Jain pilgrimage sites and expansive natural landscapes
Damoh offers two distinct discoveries: Jain pilgrimage sites and an expansive landscape of rocky terrain, grasslands and riverbanks. Kundalpur is a historic Jain pilgrimage site in Kundalgiri, in the Damoh district of Madhya Pradesh. It is located 35 km from the city of Damoh. Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve covers 2,339 square kilometres and extends across the districts of Sagar, Damoh and Narsinghpur. When choosing a holiday rental, it helps to decide first what you want to focus on: pilgrimage sites, an annual festival or the reserve’s natural environment.
Kundalpur and Bandakpur
Kundalpur is home to a seated statue of Bade Baba (Adinath) in the Padmasana posture. The Jain temples on the hills are also among the pilgrimage site’s distinctive features. Those interested in Jain culture can explore the site through these two highlights: the statue and the temple complex. The temples are listed among the centrally protected monuments and sites of the Archaeological Survey of India. Kundalpur thus combines a distinct religious character with a historic atmosphere.
Bandakpur is another religious centre. This place in Damoh district is known for the Jageshwar Nath Shiva Temple. A large Mela gathering takes place there every year on Basant Panchami and Shivratri. These two annual occasions give your travel plans specific dates to consider. If you are particularly interested in the temple and the Mela, you can make Bandakpur a focus in its own right, rather than treating it as equivalent to the Jain sites in Kundalpur.
Rocky terrain, grasslands and riverbanks
Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve extends across three districts and covers an area of 2,339 square kilometres. Its landscape is described as rugged, rocky terrain and open grasslands. The reserve is known as the “Savannah of Central India.” This name adds to the picture of a landscape where open spaces and rocky areas lie side by side. This natural setting is therefore quite different from a trip focused on the temples and pilgrimage sites of Kundalpur or Bandakpur.
The banks of the Bamner River are another of the reserve’s notable natural features. Various storks and kingfishers can be found there. Those interested in bird species have a distinct point of interest alongside the terrain and grasslands.
Choose the right focus for your trip
Kundalpur is a specific distance from the city of Damoh: 35 km. By contrast, Veerangana Durgavati Tiger Reserve is defined by its expanse of 2,339 square kilometres across three districts. These are different spatial scales. So if you are looking for a holiday rental in Damoh, you can first decide whether Kundalpur, Bandakpur or the natural area will be the main reason for your trip. This way, you can choose a location based on what interests you most, rather than treating pilgrimage sites and the reserve as equivalent destinations.
