Jhajjar offers a variety of reasons to stay: migratory birds and nature watching, a pilgrimage site, a museum with an unusual exhibit, and experiences involving music, crafts and activities. This makes choosing the focus of your trip a good starting point when looking for a holiday apartment. Consider whether you want to focus primarily on nature, cultural discoveries or a varied range of activities.

Birdlife and nature watching

Bhindawas Bird Sanctuary covers 1,074 acres. Over the course of the year, more than 30,000 migratory birds from over 250 species visit the sanctuary; resident birds are also found there. A 12-kilometre road runs around the lake. This gives you a concrete point of reference for planning your day, but it is not a walking route: it is a road.

Khaparwas Wildlife Sanctuary is another option for nature enthusiasts: it hosts migratory birds in winter, and visitors can observe its flora and fauna. If birdwatching is your main interest, these two sites offer different starting points for planning your trip: the birdlife at Bhindawas Bird Sanctuary throughout the year, and the migratory birds at Khaparwas in winter.

Museum and pilgrimage site

The museum at Gurukul Jhajjar is located on the outskirts of the city of Jhajjar. Swami Omanand, the Gurukul’s director at the time, founded it in 1959. The collections include coins from various eras and regions. A rare terracotta figure inscribed with Valmiki’s Ramayana in Brahmi script is particularly striking. The coins and the figure offer two very different ways to explore the exhibition: through the variety of coins on display and through a single object inscribed with text from an epic.

Mata Bhimeshwari Devi Beri Temple in Jhajjar district is a pilgrimage site. Thousands of devotees worship the goddess there, who is also known as Beri Mata. If you are interested in religious traditions, you can include this site as a cultural focus of your trip.

Activities, crafts and village-style cuisine

Joygaon Picnic Park is located on the Jhajjar-Bahadurgarh road and offers more than 90 activities. These include pottery, magic shows, massages and the traditional Rajasthani Kathputli dance. Village-style food is also available. The wide selection ranges from creative activities to performances and food; you can weigh up these different interests when planning your stay.

Pratapgarh Farms brings together other kinds of experiences: against a backdrop of green fields, it offers folk music and dance, traditional crafts made by artisans, natural beauty treatments, and sports and adventure activities. Visitors can also take part in the daily life of the villagers. When making your choice, consider which kind of experience interests you: music and dance, craft traditions, activities or a glimpse of everyday life.

Getting there and choosing experiences that suit your interests

Jhajjar can be reached by regular train services from other major cities in India; the nearest railway station is Jhajjar Junction. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can first decide what you want to focus on and then compare suitable travel options. Nature watching, the museum, the pilgrimage site and the activities each offer a different focus, so you do not need to fit every experience into a single day’s itinerary.
