Jashpur: Waterfalls, Forest and Culture
Accommodation in Jashpur
Jashpur is in the northeast of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, bordering Jharkhand and Odisha. The Lower Ghats are characterised by waterfalls, rivers and tribal villages. This gives the district a variety of attractions: you can focus on nature experiences or explore places of cultural significance.
Waterfalls and Landscapes
Rani-Dah Waterfall combines a pool with a natural landscape. Families use the spot for picnics. At Danpuri Waterfall, the forest setting is another defining feature: it is located in the middle of a forest. The foot of the waterfall can be reached in two hours. When planning your trip, you can take this time estimate into account without treating it as a specific distance or walking time. The two waterfalls therefore offer distinct natural attractions rather than interchangeable stops.
Forest, Wildlife and Hikes
The climate in Badalkhol Abhyaran is considered particularly suitable for wild animals and birds. The protected area is on the Jashpur–Ambikapur road towards Bagicha Block, about 15 km from Bagicha. If you are interested in wildlife, this offers a different focus from a trip to a waterfall. Mayali Nature Camp is in the Kunkuri area of Jashpur District. Dense forest covers the area around the camp, which is suitable for extended hikes. This means the district offers both a natural area associated with animals and birds and a place specifically suited to longer hikes.
Cultural Sites in Jashpur
The Cathedral (Mahagirja Ghar) is located in Kunkuri. It was founded in 1962 and consecrated on 27 October 1979. A shrine directly in front of the cathedral invites visitors to pray before Mother Mary. This gives your trip a specific cultural site with its own religious significance. Khuriarani Cave offers a different experience: the Khuria-Rani Temple is inside a hill. The path to the cave leads into the hill, and it is very dark inside. This darkness is part of the visitor experience and is an important feature to consider when deciding whether to take this trip. Waterfalls, forests and cultural sites appeal to different interests, without needing to be linked into a single route.
