Hyderabad offers plenty of ways to enjoy a varied trip: historic buildings, museums, parks, wildlife and experiences on the water. Deciding which of these will shape your stay is a good first step when choosing your holiday rental. If you are travelling with children or several generations, you can weigh up the different highlights rather than planning every visit around the same interests.

Monuments and Architectural History

Charminar was built in 1591 by Sultan Mohammed Quli Qutb Shah. Its minarets are 48.7 metres high. The historic Mecca Masjid lies immediately to its southwest. Chowmahalla Palace also tells the story of Hyderabad: construction began in 1750 under Nizam Salabhat Jung and was completed between 1857 and 1869. At Birla Mandir, architecture from Utkal (Oriya) combines with South Indian styles; the temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his form as Sri Venkateswara.

The Qutub Shahi Tombs are among Hyderabad’s oldest historic monuments. A large group of tombs stands on a raised platform; the complex includes seven tombs of former kings of Golconda and is surrounded by landscaped gardens called Ibrahim Bagh. The site is considered the burial place of the entire dynasty in one location. This ensemble can be viewed both for its architectural layout and its historical significance.

Museums, Gardens and Wildlife

The Salarjung Museum has 38 galleries across two floors, with collections of art objects, books and manuscripts. The Dr. Y.S.R. State Museum in Hyderabad displays collections dating from the 2nd century BC to the 19th century, including Buddhist and Jain sculptures and an Egyptian mummy. At the Centenary Heritage Museum, the “Art through the Ages” gallery features terracotta, stucco, metal and wood. Those interested in science can also find art and archaeology at the B.M. Birla Science Centre; the centre also includes an interdisciplinary space museum in collaboration with ISRO.

NTR Gardens covers 55 acres and is home to a memorial to N. T. Rama Rao. A monorail ride takes visitors through the park. More than 1,500 species of birds, animals and reptiles live at Nehru Zoological Park. Park attractions include a lion safari, a dinosaur park, a night zoo, a natural history museum and a miniature train. These varied highlights give you several ways to plan an outing around your interests.

Water, Cityscape and a Local Specialty

Hussain Sagar Lake was created on a tributary of the Musi and connects Secunderabad and Hyderabad. Speedboat and motorboat rides are available on the lake; if a boat trip is important to your plans, check current schedules in advance. Visitors can also take a boat ride from Lumbini Park to see the monolithic Buddha statue up close. The park is an urban recreation area in Hyderabad and can be reached via Necklace Road.

Another distinctive experience awaits at Golconda Fort in the western part of Hyderabad. Its inner fort contains the ruins of palaces and mosques, as well as a pavilion on a hill. There, a clap near the domed entrance can be heard as an acoustic effect at the pavilion nearly a kilometre away. As a culinary reference, Hyderabadi Dum Biryani is part of the city’s identity: the dish is a specialty of Hyderabad.

The Right Holiday Rental for Your Travel Plans

When choosing where to stay, it helps to decide which visits matter most: will you focus on monuments and museums, wildlife and gardens, or experiences on the water? Compare the location of a rental with the places you actually plan to visit. You can also factor in your journey to Hyderabad, which is well connected to other parts of India by an extensive railway and road network.
