The wider Liaoyuan area brings together pipa culture, historical traces at Longshou Mountain, museum exhibits, and rural activities. When planning your stay, it is worth considering these different highlights: Would you like to focus mainly on cultural history, or are you more interested in excursions into the countryside and rural experiences?

Pipa culture across several historical milestones

The connection to the pipa is reflected in Liaoyuan and its wider region through several dated recognitions. In 2004, the China Nationalities Orchestra Society awarded Liaoyuan the title “Chinese Hometown of Pipa.” In 2006, Xianshun Pipa School was recognized as a “National Pipa Training Base.” In 2008, the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism designated the school a “National Cultural Industry Demonstration Base.”

Xianshun Pipa School’s teaching method was also recognized: in 2009, it was designated intangible cultural heritage at the provincial level. This timeline distinguishes Liaoyuan’s title from the later institutional awards for the school and the recognition of its teaching method. If you are interested in cultural history, these milestones offer a way to trace how the pipa focus developed over several years.

Longshou Mountain: scenery and history

Longshou Mountain Park is a major excursion destination within Liaoyuan. Longshou Mountain, with Kuixing Tower, is also a nationally designated 3A tourist destination. The park offers scenic experiences, views over the city, Guoxue cultural experiences, and recreation.

There is also an ancient city site on Longshou Mountain. It was built during the Goguryeo period, continued to be used during the Liao and Jin periods, and was used again by the Yehe tribe in the late Ming period. This sequence gives the mountain a historical dimension that combines with its scenic appeal. The focus is therefore not only on the views, but also on the site’s long history.

Museum exhibits ranging from city history to Manchu culture

Liaoyuan Museum includes exhibition areas on Liaoyuan’s city history, Liaoyuan’s party history, intangible cultural heritage, clocks and watches, and Manchu culture. Its themes thus range from the city’s history and cultural traditions to specialized collection areas. For planning your outings, this offers a cultural perspective distinct from the pipa recognitions or the historic city site on Longshou Mountain.

Rural experiences and trails in the wider area

Yongzhi Village has a 3-kilometer wooden boardwalk hiking trail and a 9-kilometer mountain biking route. They differ both in length and in how you travel. Check trail conditions before visiting.

A seasonal orchard in Yongzhi offers pick-your-own sweet cherries, peaches, plums, and grapes. The picking season usually runs from May to October; confirm the specific dates locally before planning your visit. This makes it possible to schedule this excursion differently from the trails, which are not tied to the same harvest season.

Also in Yongzhi Village, Longquan Lake Villa is an AAA-rated tourist destination and an AAA-rated rural tourism provider. Kangyuangu is an A-rated tourist destination and an AAA-rated rural tourism provider. Its offerings include family activities and rural sightseeing, as well as more than 20 experience facilities and opportunities to see and feed small animals up close.

Guiquan Valley Rural Eco-Leisure Estate is located in Group 3, Lirang Village, Shoushan Township, Longshan District, 14 kilometers from the urban area. It combines animal husbandry and crop cultivation with the development of rural nature and landscape offerings, holiday guest accommodation, and a distinctive alcoholic beverage. These places and offerings have different highlights, from the mountain park and museum to harvests, trails, and rural tourism.

These differences can help guide your choice of vacation rental. If you want to focus on pipa culture, city history, and Longshou Mountain, your trip will have a different emphasis than if you are interested in fruit picking, mountain biking, or rural attractions. Tailor your search to the experiences that matter most during your stay.
